Don't. Move. A muscle. That's all you could think at the moment as those glowing eyes glared at you through the shrubbery. It feels like you've been holding your breath for hours while having this stare down but it's only really been a few seconds, maybe ten. The beast emerged out from its hiding place. Some of the moonlight reflected off its silver coat, making the wolf appear to be glowing and giving the impression that this was a gentle creature, not an animal that was going to rip your head off within the next minute.
It stalked over to its left, keeping its eyes on you and making sure you wouldn't try to flee. When you moved your foot backwards, breaking a twig in the process, the wolf stopped moving and a low growl rumbled deep in its chest. You wanted to move your hands up into a surrender position instinctively but something told you the animal wouldn't like the movement. Your arms stayed glued to your sides as you slowly began to have a mental breakdown.
This was it; this was where you died. You had really been hoping you'd be able to see Jimin again, to go back home again. The beast lowered itself to a crouching position and began growling louder, eyes blazing. With a snarl, it leapt at you. You dropped down to your knees, tucking your head into your chest and saying a final goodbye to your life. But seconds passed and you still didn't feel pain--there was no wolf crashing into you. In fact, you could've sworn you heard something running away.
You lifted your head cautiously and, as expected, the wolf was no longer in front of you. You turned around and the animal was nowhere to be found. Instead, however, there was a man standing a few feet away now. All it took was one look at his face and suddenly a wave of nostalgia crashed over you.
"Merric?"
You'd recognize his face anywhere, although that was the only part of him that had remained the same. His hair was no longer black but instead bleached blonde. It also wasn't neatly trimmed, he had grown it out to just past his chin. He was wearing some ratty cargo shorts but that was it, his chest was bare and exposed, revealing the spectacular abs you had never known about.
"God, you have no idea how--"
"Are you alone?" Merric interrupted.
You furrowed your eyebrows in confusion but nodded. His eyes narrowed and he growled before punching a tree.
"Fuck! If I see that Jimin prick I'm gonna shove my fist so far down his throat--"
"What the hell are you saying!?" you yelled, suddenly not so happy that you had run into your...ex-best friend. "Why are you cussing Jimin out!? He didn't bring me here if that's what you think, dumbass!"
"But he killed you!" Merric retorted, glaring daggers at you. "And your--"
"What?" Your voice has quieted. What was he saying? "What do you mean?"
Merric stared at you silently for a few moments, anger slowly dissipating from his features. He sighed out in exasperation, leaning against a nearby tree and rubbing the back of his neck.
"Someone from the pack said they sensed a half-life in our territory. Jack, who you had the pleasure of running into before me, told me he found it. If you're alone then that means it's you."
"What's a half-life?" you asked, confused. Although, deep down you had a feeling you knew what it meant.
"It's what we call someone who's transitioning. In order to become a vampire, you need to first die with their blood inside you, right? I'm guessing you had Jimin's blood in your system and were killed somehow? You're a half-life now because you aren't fully vampire yet--you haven't completed the process," Merric explained.
You stared at the ground, not looking at anything in particular. "So I really am dead." You let out a scream of frustration, picking up a pebble by your feet and chucking it at a tree. "That crazy bitch killed me!"
