"Your attendance has been quite....poor," The head peered up at me after scanning my report. "Now I understand you are having, um, difficulties, however, you do need to start attending." She gave me a sympathetic look and I could tell she felt bad but the job had to be done. I stood before her, not knowing what to say. My silence filled the room, it was deafening. She gave in and dismissed me with a warning. I wondered if Daniel got the same treatment, he barely turned up. Everyone was already in class so I headed to my locker to get my books out. A folded piece of paper fell out and landed by my feet. I picked it up and unfolded it.

I'll kill you before you can even remember.

What the hell!?

I frantically looked around, but the halls were empty. I stuffed the paper into my pocket and slammed the locker shut. I quickly texted Daniel and Georgina and only got one reply back.

G: omg! That's so scary! Have you been to the police?

Lana: I'm considering it.

First that dream and now this? Someone was definitely out to get me. I knew something that they wanted to keep hidden. Did they cause my accident? No, this wasn't the time and place to think about attempted murder.

I headed into class and sat by Sapphire.

"What's up babycakes, you look spooked?" Sapphire asked, concerned. Alice leaned forward to take a better look at me. I ignored their stares and got my things out.

"Nothing," I answered blankly. Sapphire was about to respond when Alice reached over and stopped her. For the rest of the day they gave me my space. I walked right past them at lunch and sat on an empty table. I could feel their eyes burning through the back of my head but I brushed it off. I nibbled on my ham and cheese toastie while I texted Georgina. She had left school after what happened and was now homeschooled. Daniel still hadn't returned my text so I sent him another which was just a question mark.

Not being able to prolong it any further I searched for available jobs. None looked decent enough or grabbed my attention apart from the library. They needed an assistant and the pay looked alright for such a basic job. I emailed my CV then put my phone away. I left the experience section blank, I didn't know whether I worked before or not. If I had, what kind of job would I have had?

The final bell rang and school was over. Sammy was at his usual spot waiting...with a friend.

"Hello, Sammy, who is this?" I smiled down at his friend. If I wasn't Sammy's sister I would have thought these two were twins. He shyly hid behind Sammy, how cute.

"This is Tommy. He's invited me over for a sleepover tonight, can I please go?" He put his two hands together and looked up at me with puppy dog eyes. I pretended to think even though I already knew my answer. I mean, how could I possibly say no to him. He deserved it after everything he had been through. He was never allowed to do anything before and then he lost his sister and he's witnessed Daniel's beaten face and is always there when I've collapsed. He's the strongest little boy I know.

"Hmmm, I don't see why not." The two boys jumped in excitement. Sammy gave me a quick hug before running off with Tommy.

"See you tomorrow! I love you!" I called out, God I was such a mother. I probably embarrassed him. Sammy stopped in his tracks, turned on his heel and shouted back.

"Love you too!" I watched him with a large smile on my face. As I walked back home I stared down at my phone wondering what Daniel was up to. He hadn't replied to my texts all day. I rang him twice with no answer. Sighing, I decided to drop it. I probably looked needy or something. Unlocking the door I walked into the empty house.
