After school I hung back to get some assignments from teachers to catch up and then walked home.

Monses party was at 8 so I did some homework, cleaned up, called my mama and took a shower to get ready

I put it on my black dress, did my make up and hair and got ready to leave.

Once I got to monse's I rang the bell and she let me in. Ruby, Cesar and Jamal were already there and so was some girl I never met.

"That's Jasmine. Shes a crazy one. Stick with me and you'll be fine. Or Jamal. He's a good guy just so you know. And no he didn't ask me to tell you that. He really is a good guy." Monse said as we walked in.

She passed me a beer and I had sat next to her on the sofa as she waited for everyone else.

Jamal was talking to Cesar while Ruby was talking to Jasmine. I had noticed that Jamal kept looking over at me and smiling.

Monse and I chilled until more people started coming.

At one point I went to get another beer and Jamal came up behind me.

"You look really nice" he said.

I looked him up and down and smiled.

He was wearing all black and looked cute.

"You look good too" I replied.

"Wanna sit down" he asked.

We walked over to an empty space on the sofa and awkwardly sat drinking our beers.

"So I'm just gonna be honest with you. I'm nervous about this evening" I said breaking the silence.

"I'm nervous too. You know, we don't have to do anything" he replied.

I looked away shyly and then back at him.

"How about we just enjoy the night and whatever happens, happens." I said as I took a drink from my beer.

He nodded his head and took a sip of his beer as well.

After a couple of drinks, Jamal had loosened up and was back to his confident goofy self.

He grabbed my hand and we started to dance. He pulled me close to him and I smelled his cologne as I looked up at him.

"This is a slow dance you know?" I said as the song changed.

"At this point everyone thinks we're together. Why not actually give it a chance." Jamal said.

I smiled at him and locked eyes with him.

"Are you asking me to be your girlfriend Jamal" i asked.

"Yeah, something like that. If you're interested"
he said.

"Well then, yes. I'd like that actually." I replied.

He leaned in for a kiss and it seemed like the world stopped.

This kiss was different because he was actually mine.

After the song was over Cesar came and sat with us.

"Saw that kiss bro. So is it official?'' Cesar asked.

"Yes my brother. This pretty lady is my girl now. So now you're not the only one who has a girl" Jamal said confidently.

"Finally! I'm happy for you two." Cesar said.
