Principal Scorching finally came into the room after letting the first year's simmer for a bit. He was an old man with white hair, nearly black skin with red freckles, and wore a sweater vest.
"Hello everyone. As you all know, a few artifacts went missing while you were in class. So, I'm going to have you all wait in the hallway while I personally interview you. First is Mr. Addams." With that Allen Addams, a water user with greenish skin stayed in the room as everyone left. After about 15 minutes Allen left and went up to lunch. Next was an earth girl, Matilda Atticus, she only stayed in the room for 10 minutes.
"Ella Brown." She went into the room and gave Melony a wave. She was in the room for 15 minutes as well. After a few more interviews it was Melony Everest's turn. She sat down and the first thing the principal said was "have some spiced pumpkin juice, Ms. Everest."
"No thank you, sir."
"It wasn't a question Everest."
She picked up the clear glass cup that had the murky orange liquid in it with little flecks of spices floating around inside. She took the tiniest sip possible. Melony hated the taste of pumpkin more than anything else. The smell alone almost made her throw up.
"More," he is clearly getting annoyed now. She took a mouthful and swallowed it, the noise her stomach made could be heard by both her and the principal. Her head felt fuzzy, she was short of breath, and could barely think.
"Did you take the genie ring, necklace of invisibility, and levitation gloves?"
"No," Melony said in a whisper and red in the face.
"Do you know who did?" He asked.
"No," this went on for 15 minutes. By the time she left, her face was bright red and she felt nauseous.
Ella was waiting for her at the elevator.
"Are you ok?" Ella asked her slow and red friend. Mmmhm was the sound Melony made.
"Why did it half to be pumpkin?"
"The juice, you had it to. I read about it in one of my dad's books. It's a light, short lived truth potion."
There was 40 minutes of lunch left but Ella couldn't get Melony to eat. Ben saw them in the last 10 minutes of lunch.
"Who stole the stuff!" He was full of excitement.
"We don't know." Ella said aggressively.
"Well," he rolled his eyes "any ideas." An older boy also in a green jumpsuit, probably a friend of Ben's came over.
"Probably one of those air brats. They're well known for their sticky fingers after all."
"Haha could be," Ben said not really laughing.
"And a water brat probably helped. There all slither-outers after all."
Before Ben or anyone else could say anything, Lottie popped up behind the boys.
"First, you better have some proof before saying something like that. Second, you could get into a lot of trouble bothering first years like this, again. Go back to your table or I'm going to tell your house supervisor." Both Ben and Peter left, Lottie gave the girls a little smile and wave before skipping back to her seat, completely unbothered.
They left for the next period; Ella helped Melony to the library for study hall even though Melony insisted that she was fine. When the librarian saw the student's pink cow splotched face, she made her go to the nurse's office.
The nurse's office is a blindingly white room. It's a large, nearly empty space with four cots out and the rest leaning against the far wall. All the white gave Melony a headache, she couldn't even open her eyes as the nurse took her temperature. Her temperature was normal, but there were still pink splotches on her face. Two fairies are in the room, supposedly cleaning the room, were jumping on the spare bed's pillow.
"You two, stop it. Now." The head nurse scolded the fairies. They listened to her and sat down unhappily. "Nothing to serious," the older nurse smiled "looks like you have a slight reaction to pumpkin. You'll have to try not to eat any, ok." Melony nodded and told her it's not a problem. The main nurse is nice and has blond hair. Before she left, the secondary nurse, an extremely young woman with curly red hair gave her a chalky white pill to take with water.
Melony was excused from study hall and air classe, after all it was only the second day, so she wouldn't be missing much. She had taken a nap when she got back to her room, she had her window open and was watching her fellow classmates flying around on their nests. She hoped that they would be on the nests for a while.
For supper the fairies brought her a tray of food; toast with peanut butter and jelly, sugared apples, and plain crackers. She ate them quickly, she thought about how it was nice to be alone for a while. She knew that free time like this would be rare from now on.
She then took a bath. She looked into the steamed mirrors and thought about her face. It was round, smooth, and pink (it's normal color now). Her hair was light brown, a few shades lighter and it would be a honey color. And of course, her eyes are a solid, flat gray color. She looked like how most every air user looks. Eventually it made her think too much about what happened at lunch, the insults that she expected to happen later in the year, not in the first week. As upset as she was, she decided to go back to her room to sleep.
She laid in her bed peacefully, no longer thinking about her problems. She was starting to nod off when there was a knock at the door and a piece of paper flew into her room from under the door. It read Hi, it's me, Ella. Come out I want to show you something.
She put the paper down and threw open the door, still in her pajamas and emerged at the girls entrance, almost running into Ella.
"We'll take the elevator a few floors down, then take the stairs so we don't get caught." Ella said.
"Caught?" Melony exclaimed.
