Ella fed the fish near the deep end of the pond. Her pants were rolled up and she stood barefoot in the water. Instead of talking to Ella, she stood behind her and blew bubbles in her direction. The bright colors spiraled in the bubbles, when the bubbles popped the colors exploded out and ran to the sky. This got Ella's attention. She ran around and popped all the bubbles she could. Melony gave Ella the wand, she took big breaths to make big bubbles. Swirling colors of teal, lilac, mint, and cherry red ran everywhere.
The girls were running around, blowing and popping bubbles when SPLAT, they were covered in dirt. It was obvious that a dirt ball had been thrown at them, in the distance the girls could see George with two other boys laughing.
"You want to see something?" Ella asked. She started repeating the word Ovidedenioum, as she repeated the word a pool of water formed above their heads, unknown by the three boys in green. It quickly seemed too heavy for Ella to hold, so she stopped chanting, and the water fell on the boys hard, making a SPLAT noise when it hit their skin. Melony contributed to this by using Willegene, this didn't knock them over, but it did bring a big breeze their way, making them shiver violently.
After the three boys left, the girls went their separate ways. Both ran to their rooms quickly and scrubbed themselves clean and sent their clothes down by fairy to get them cleaned. Soon, a piece of paper was slipped under Melony's door. It read: Ms. Everest, please come to my room. Mr. Greengrass, Creatures Study room.
She set off right away. Outside on a bench was Ella, her hair hanging in long wet strands, she sat with her arms crossed and her ear to the door.
The dark-haired girl turned to her friend and began to say "That little rat-"but was caught off by the door opening, George and his friends walked out of the room, still soaking wet. Mr. Greengrass followed them out and waved the two girls in, looking disappointed.
"Well girls, time to tell your side of the fight."
Melony went red in the face, which to the teacher looked like guilt. But, before the more timid girl could say anything, Ella jumped in.
"It wasn't a fight, they threw mud at us, so I dropped water on them" she conveniently left out the part about Melony blowing wind at them, but she wasn't about to correct her friend.
"Alright then, why aren't you covered in mud?" The question was directed at Melony, the more honest one.
"...well we changed our clothes and showered." It felt like a trick question, and Melony felt like she gave the wrong answer by the look on his face, even though Ella's hair was still wet.
"Then why are you dry." He said triumphantly. Melony was always a naturally nervous child, who was taught to be nice to her elders even if they were wrong, that advice wasn't helpful at the moment.
"A drying towel, sir?" She wished she hadn't had said it like a question. He got a little red in the face.
"Can you give Ella and us a moment, please." Melony nodded and sat on the bench outside. She could hear mumbling, so she put her ear to the door as Ella had done earlier. The sound is muffled but she could make out what they were saying.
"Ella, I'm worried about you. You barely talk to your brother or George anymore. Your mom and dad have been asking about you, what am I supposed to say?"
"I'm fine. I don't talk to Ben because he's embarrassing and he has stupid friends. And George's been picking on me and trying to make me feel bad about being a water witch." There was a pause, and then Melony heard footsteps, she quickly slid to the other side of the bench. Ella walked out and closed the door behind her a little too forcefully. She stood there with her hand on the handle and foot tapping.
"Do you want to see what the lake looks like from my room?" Melony nodded enthusiastically.
