Chapter 16

"So, Matt. You saved your sister and trade position with her so it's you who's going to attend this party and not her? How loving of a brother you are," I said sincerely. "I hope I got an older brother or sister too." I added with a bit of sadness in my voice and he was quick to catch on.

"You're the eldest or only child?"

"One and only." I confirmed, raising my glass towards him and finished the remaining wine in my glass.

"Dang! Sayang ang lahi." He reacted unbelievably and raised his hand to the nearby waiter without tearing his eyes off of me.

"What do you mean?" I asked, confused.

"Well, you should know. Dapat nag-anak pa ang mga magulang mo para ikalat ang kanilang magandang lahi." Ngiti niya.

"I could say the same to you, you know." I returned the compliment though I know he already has a sister but I don't know how many siblings he has. Still, it's applicable to him.

My compliment isn't actually a joke just to humor him. He is handsome in his own way. Women will definitely like him and his personality kung mas makikilala pa nila siya. I just know the superficial yet I find him nice. Parang ang easy going lang niya and base from tonight, masaya naman siya kasama at kausap. Never did he make a rude gesture or bad words in front of me.

The waiter came handing two more wine glasses and as Matt got my empty glass on my hand to replace it with another, tumanggi na ako sa kasunod. I am not really a fan of wines and beers.

He got another glass for himself and even kid the waiter asking for some beer na wala naman silang ibinibigay sa mga bisita. Kasabay ng pag-alis ng waiter ay siya naman na narinig namin ang ingay ng mikropono sa harapan.

Nawala ang atensiyon ko pansamantala kay Matt at napitingin banda sa harapan sa may stage where a man wearing a formal suit just like the others asked everyone to settle in there places as the party will start in just a few seconds.

Inikot ko uli ang aking mga mata sa paligid to look for dad so I'll know where to sit but he is still nowhere to be found. I'm sure Dante already did his job to tell dad that I am here, he should be looking for me as well. He didn't asked me to come only to ignore me, or would he let me do whatever I want tonight?

"Do you want to sit with me on our table? I think we have one vacant." Matt told me when I stopped looking around.

"Oh, um. Are you sure that's alright?" I asked warily.

"Only if you're okay sitting with my parents and other leeches." He shrugged.

I don't want to cause trouble with anyone but I don't know anyone here in the party but him, and as soon as I found my dad, I'm going to switch places. For now, I'll enjoy his company for a few more minutes or maybe hours.

As we sat exactly to where their table is, at the middle part on the left side of the hall, the lights went out and a video started to play for everyone to see.

Lahat ay tumahimik at nakatingin na sa harapan kung saan may naka-project. It's just a short presentation about our business that I have a little understanding on what's it about.

"Interesting," Matt whispered to me, still looking at the video presentation.

"Ha." I pushed him back a little though I saw how his face lit up with curiosity after that presentation is done playing.

The emcee talked about something and introduced a lot of people who shared something about the company that I didn't pay attention to. The last one called to speak, Mr. Nikolo, the Director of Operations, was the only person I recognized amongst others.
