There was a knock at my door. I quickly sniffled and wiped my face and went to open the door.
It was Alec. "We've got a situation in the ops center." he said. "Gimme a second." I said and closed my door. I grabbed my stele off my piano and threw on a black and white flannel over my black shirt.
I followed Alec to the ops center. Clary was wearing one of Izzy's outfits. Holy shit she looks ho-Keep it together Ash! Now's not the time. Jace was also there with a nerdy looking guy with glasses.
"What's going on? Why is there a mundane in the Institute?" Alec asked, referring to the guy Clary and Jace were with.
"A Circle member followed him to get to Clary." Jace explained. I was surprised and confused. "Okay, what did I miss in the last 7 minutes?" I asked.
"A Circle rune. Just like the guys that took my mother." Clary said. "What exactly is a Circle member and why are they trying to kill us?" the guy asked.
"All we know is, a long time ago the Circle led a revolt. A lot of Shadowhunters got killed." I explained. Jace looked down. "Among those fallen Shadowhunters was my father."Jace said. I placed my hand on Jace's shoulder. He shrugged it off as Alec continued to speak.
"And since the revolt we've been forbidden to even hear about the Circle." Alec said.
"How's that even possible? It's your history." Clary asked. I chuckled slightly. "Says the girl who didn't even know she was a Shadowhunter." I said, walking over to the monitor. Alec stifled a laugh.
"Yeah. Yeah you're right, Ash. And now the only person who knows the truth is missing. So I don't care about your rules or what's forbidden I'm... There's gotta be someone who can tell us why they've taken my mother." Clary said.
"There is." Jace said. "Coming, Clary?" I asked. She started following us along with her friend.
"No, no, no. Not you." Jace said. "Hey we're a package deal." Clary argued. "Yeah." her friend agreed. I'm starting to see why Alec finds her annoying.
"There are runes all over the training room that would kill your mundie boyfriend." Jace said to mess with them. "He's not my--" "I'm not like--" They stopped and looked at each other.
Ohhh. He likes her, she doesn't like him. "We're just friends." he said. "Best friends." Clary corrected.
"And I'm tough. I can handle runes, so bring on the runes." he said, as he lightly hit Jace's chest and got hurt by it.
"How much you wanna bet this shrimp will last?" I muttered to Alec. He just chuckled at me.
"What exactly are runes?" he asked. "They give Shadowhunters our demon-fighting powers." I said, pulling my chest out of my shirt to my heart and lighting up my Angelic Power rune with my stele.
"So hot." the guy said, obviously interested in Izzy and I. Jace cleared his throat as a warning.
"The rune." he said. I smirked at Jace. Alec was about to walk up to him, but I stopped him.
Izzy chuckled. "Don't worry, Clary. I'll watch over the best friend." Izzy said, not buying that they're actually friends and nothing more.
"I was just about to make breakfast." Izzy said. I inhaled sharply. "On second thought the runes might be less lethal." I said. "Took the words right out of my mouth, Ash." Jace said.
I love Izzy, but let's just say her cooking could use some improvement. Lots of improvement.
"I'm gonna pretend I didn't hear that. Please excuse my brother and sister's lack of manners." Izzy said.
