This World Inverted

The next morning, I woke up to the smell of bacon and the sound of Twenty-One Pilots playing. Well this day has gotten off to a good start.

I got up and went into the kitchen. "Good morning, Ash." Scout said, tending to a pan full of bacon.

"Morning. Can I grab a coffee?" I asked. "Of course. Help yourself, don't be shy." she said. I grabbed a mug and poured myself a nice cup of coffee and added my desired amount of cream and sugar.

"Breakfast is served. Take whatever you like." she said. On the table was bacon, toast, different spreads for the toast, a bowl of berries, a separate bowl of orange slices and a pitcher of orange juice.

"Also I hope you don't mind the music. Twenty-One Pilots is one of my favorite bands." she said.

I widened my eyes at her. "I know, I know, this is mundane music, but I like it." she said, thinking I was judging her.

"I'm not judging you. I agree with you! I love Twenty-One Pilots!" I said. She was shocked and we bonded more over bands as we ate breakfast.

Scouts phone rang and she paused the music on her laptop and answered her phone.

"Hello?" "Who's asking?" she asked the caller and my head snapped up.

"Yeah she's right here. One sec." she said, her face changing.

"What's going on?" I asked. "It's your brother, sounds serious." she said, handing me the phone.

"Alec, I told you not to call this number again." I said. "Izzy's been arrested. High treason. You need to come back, right now." Alec said.

"What?! Oh my God, I'll be there ASAP!" I said and hung up. "What just happened?" Scout asked. "Izzy's been arrested. I need to get back to the Institute. Get dressed quickly." I said.

I already picked out some clothes last night so I threw those on and Scout and I met up with each other in the living room. She grabbed her axe and we activated our speed runes, glamoured ourselves and sped back to the Institute.

I burst open the doors and saw Alec. "Alec!" I said and hugged him.

"Where is she?" I asked. "In the head office. Who's this?" Alec asked, looking at Scout.

"Scout Ravenbranch. I'm a transfer from Hawaii, I was supposed to start here in a couple weeks." she explained.

"Alec Lightwood. Nice to meet you, wish it were under better circumstances." he said.

"You go see Izzy. I need to talk to Lydia, I might have a way to get Izzy out of this." he said and walked away.

I went to the head office and Scout followed but waited at the corner of the hallway. Raj was guarding the door.

"Let me in, Raj. I need to see her." I said. "I can't let you in, Ash." he said. I pushed him out of the way and despite his protests, I went in and shut the door on him.

"Izzy." I said. She stood up from the couch and we hugged. "I'm so sorry. I should've been here." I said.

"It's not your fault." she said. We pulled away and sat on the couch. "I should've told you guys about me and Magnus. We were both scared. I'm sorry. I get it if you feel betrayed and angry with me." I said.

"I'm not mad at you. If anything I'm more shocked. You guys have been pretending not to know each other when you've had such a strong friendship. I'm sorry you guys had to hide." Izzy said.

"Does Alec know?" I asked. She shook her head.

"Thank the Angel." I said. "Izzy. Alec said he might have a way to get you out of this. I think he's talking about the Cup." I said.
