Song Ash sing/wrote. I own nothing.
That night I could hardly sleep. I was terrified that Raphael would somehow find his way into the Institute and into my room and take me again. I went as far as keeping a seraph blade under my pillow and drinking a crap ton of holy water. I was sitting on my bed with the seraph blade in my hand. I was fidgeting like crazy.
I remembered a song I wrote after it happened. I started quietly singing it.
"Hey, a casual affair. It could go anywhere, but only for tonight. Take any moment anytime. A lover on the left, a sinner on the right. Just lay in the atmosphere. A casual affair. Sitting there don't you say a word.
Lay in the-" I was cut off by my door opening. I jumped and gasped and lit up the seraph blade. "Whoa there! Same side." Jace said.
"Jace." I said, relieved and put the blade away. "You scared the hell out of me." I said. "I heard singing, so I wanted to see if you were okay." he said, sitting on my bed with me.
"I'm okay." I lied. "I didn't wake you, did I?" I asked. "No. No I was up." he said. He looked at my nightstand and saw the bottle of holy water. Shit!
"What is that?" he asked and picked it up. He studied it. "Ash, why do you have holy water on your nightstand?" he asked. I stammered.
"No-No reason." I said. No reason?! That's the best you could come up with?!
"What's going on, Ash?" Jace asked. "I told you, I'm fine." "No you're not, Ash. You can fool Maryse and Robert, but you can't fool your brothers and sister. I know when something's wrong with you, Ash." Jace said. I sighed.
I turned on my bedside lamp. "I'm scared." "Of what?" "It's nighttime. While we're sleeping, vampires are running free." I said.
"Yeah, so what? It's not like they can get into the Institute." Jace said.
"I know. But I'm afraid of Raphael. If he ever found a way into the Institute, he'd follow my scent to my room and catch me vulnerable, curled up in my bed asleep. And he'd take me again." I said.
"You have your protection rune though. He wouldn't be able to encanto you." Jace pointed out. "It's not about an encanto, Jace. He's a vampire and he knows the power he has over me. He doesn't have to encanto me, Jace. Two seconds touching him and I could be trapped in the DuMort with no weapons and no stele." I said.
"Hence why I have a seraph blade at my disposal and the excessive amount of holy water drinking." I finished.
"Ash. Even if Raphael did find a way into the Institute and did manage to.. you know, me, Alec and Izzy would do everything in our power to save you. I'd never let that bastard take my big sister, you know that." Jace said. He placed his hand on my cheek.
"Come here." he said and pulled me into a hug. "I love you, Jace." "I love you too, Ash." he replied. We pulled away. "Look. Since we both can't sleep, how 'bout we do some late night training?" Jace suggested. I smiled.
"Just like old times." I said, swinging my legs off my bed and standing up. I followed Jace to his room, tying my hair back in the process, and we started off with a punching bag. Jace took his shirt off and we both took turns punching. I was a little rusty though.
"Hey, pretend the bag is Raphael. Maybe that will give you some motivation." Jace said. I grunted as I punched the bag as hard as I could, knocking it over. Jace was shocked and impressed.
"Damn, Ash. These things are weighted and you knocked it with one punch." Jace said, impressed as he pulled the bag up. "Visualization. It helps." I said.
