Day of Wrath

The next night, yes night I needed the sleep, Clary went to go visit Jace at the City of Bones. I wanted to join her, but I knew that she had to do this alone.

Magnus was called in to Aldertree's office for assaulting Raj, even though the dickhead deserved it.

"How'd it go with Aldertree?" I asked him, Alec joining me. "Well the man didn't disappoint. In his own charming, inimitable way, he informed me that I will indeed be punished. But the form of punishment is yet to be decided." Magnus said.

"All for trying to save my life. Jace may have been the one who pulled me out but, I did feel you there. Both of you. And it did make a difference, so thank you." Alec said.

"Thank you for not dying on us." I said. My phone rang. It was Scout. "Excuse me." I said and took a few steps back to answer her.

"Hey." I said. "Hey. I'm almost at the Institute, but I wanted to see how you were doing? How's Alec?" "He's fine. Now that he knows Jace is alright, even if he's locked in the City of Bones." I replied.

"Well that's good. So I was thinking, with everything that's been happening, we never planned that dinner we talked about." she said.

"Yeah, yeah we should probably do that." "Ash. Demon briefing." Alec said.

"One sec." I said to him. "We may have to take a rain check on dinner. How far away are you?" I asked. "I'm just walking up now." she said and the doors opened and we hung up.

I went up and pecked her lips and we went to the ops center. We were given our orders and went to find Clary, since Scout was placed on patrol. We found her talking to Jocelyn. Probably about Idris.

"Demon attack downtown, one mundane dead." Izzy said. "And we don't have Jace so you're with us, Clary." I said.

"You want me on your team?" she asked Alec. "Not my first choice, but we're a man down and everyone else is on patrol. Gear up." Alec said.

I went to my room and put on my gear. I glamoured my bow, strapped my seraph blade to my holster and tucked my stele in a pocket. Luke went with us to steer away the mundane police.

We found the body. There was a hole punched right through his chest and his heart was missing. Me, Alec and Clary looked around for any signs of the demon that did this.

"Nothing in the immediate area." I said, walking back to Izzy and Luke.

"We're taking the body back to the Institute. I'll run some tests to see what kind of demon we're dealing with." Izzy said.

"Ash, Clary and I will widen the perimeter." Alec said. "Hey Fray! Let's go, we have a demon to hunt." Alec said.

Alec and I walked around the corner and Clary ran behind us. "Most important thing, don't slow me down. You slow me down, you get us all killed." Alec said.

"Sounds reasonable." she said. "Thermal vision, Alec." I said, activating my rune. Alec drew the rune on Clary.

"What's this for?" "Lets you see the demon's heat signature." I said. "Whoa!" Clary said as the rune activated.

"First time can be sensory overload, the trick is to focus. Filter out everything unimportant and hone in on the heat signature." I said.

"I'm honing, I'm just not seeing anything. "Patience." Alec said. "Easy for you to say. For someone who hasn't been training her whole life, this stuff is impossible." Clary said.

"Impossible just means try again." Alec said. "Don't worry, you'll be out of the field soon enough. You're going to Idris." I said.

"Wow, news travels fast. But I haven't decided yet, so Alec don't get too excited about throwing me a going away party." she said.
