Chapter 23

Suga sighed for what I think may have been the 20th time in the past few hours.

"For now, we'll just have to conclude that Luhan shouldn't be trusted."

"That's our conclusion? Bombastic."

"What else can we say, guardian?" Suga hissed, rolling his eyes. "Luhan will be in the top list of Korea's most wanted people as soon as I get back, and I'll make sure to notify you if I get anything."

"Geez, Suga the cop." I snickered. "I wonder what happened that time when I tried to sell you?"

A smirk crept up his fair face. "You helped me catch more than one criminal that day, so honestly your decision wasn't completely stupid."

"Goodness gracious. I'm a freaking hero and I had no idea. You should be buying me food."

"Geez." Suga snickered back while I shot him a sarcastic smile as he wore his cap. "Gotta go. Please do contact me regarding Luhan and the drug project."

"Got it, now get the fck out of here."

The mint haired man chuckled in response, and soon his figure disappeared behind the door he just closed.

I licked my dry lips, turning back to the other two.

"I'm sorry, Min Seok-ah." The words instantly came out Kris' mouth, his face washed up with regret as his brows furrowed. It was like he had an unbearable burden on him that only now he could show.

"What for?" Xiu Min's tone was gentle and low, his eyes a bit lost as he stared at his own hands.

"Everything that is happening. You must've gone through so many things. I'm truly sorry."

Xiu Min didn't respond, and just kept his head low. I decided to sit down at the couch, to give the two friends some privacy.

But they both stayed quiet, as if they were trying to portray their emotions through the silence. They were talking to each other without actually using their voices.

I observed Xiu Min, who looked pretty calm. But even so, I could feel the sadness and worry aura coming from him, despite having no particular expression to clearly show it.

He must be having a difficult time after knowing that Luhan lied to him, and the fact that Luhan might not be the Luhan he used to know.

A memory of him crying silently replayed before my eyes; compared to him back then, he looked much more composed now.

But even so, I understand how he really feels inside.

Like I once said, I know how a pure hearted person is, no matter how hard they hide it.

And people like him always know how to touch my heart.

"I'm sorry for coming so abruptly. I should've at least contacted you." Kris gave me a faint smile out of courtesy, since it was the first time we've met.

I smiled back, handing him the isotonic drink I just opened. Kris took it with a nod, and immediately brought it to his mouth.

We sat on the bench we found in the hospital's mini garden; all these herbs and plants surrounding us like it was displayed as we talked.

Xiu Min on the other hand, has decided to spend some alone time while I get to know Kris, as he was the real requester of my currently jeopardised task.

The guy was basically really tall, even for me. Not to boast, but I always find myself taller than most of the people I've met, including guys. But it was not the case for Kris, for he was legit taller than me with an obvious difference.
