When Olivia first read her acceptance letter from Hogwarts, including the list of supplies she needed to obtain before starting school, she really thought it would be impossible to find all that in London. However, now that she stood at the beginning of Diagon Alley, accompanied by Professor McGonagall and her father, she looked around with wide eyes, amazed by all the shops.
The street was lively with people. Families were there to do their back to school shopping. Many others who Liv could suspect were first years like herself, were also looking around excitedly, debating with their parents on where to go first.
"Professor McGonagall, didn't you say pointed hats were a myth us Muffles made up?" Ted asked curiously as his eyes scanned over the list of supplies they would need to buy.
"Muggles dad." Olivia corrected, remembering what the Professor had called the people who weren't witches or wizards that day when she first came to their flat.
"This Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them book... You won't actually go looking for dangerous beasts right?" Ted asked again, not really even waiting for a response to his previous question. Liv shook her head with a sigh. Her father was asking more questions than she was and walking around the street with so much excitement that it was starting to look like he was the one that would be going to Hogwarts and not her.
"I can assure you Mr Hawthorne, the safety of our students is of the utmost importance. We don't have them interact with anything that could be dangerous for them." The Professor calmly replied. It wasn't unusual for parents of Muggleborn witches and wizards to be worried about their children going off to an unknown place for the majority of the year. "And while the book is titled Fantastic Beasts, not all of them are dangerous. There are many classifications by which we sort the creatures in the wizarding world."
"Which creatures would I be interacting with Professor?" Olivia asked curiously, craning her neck to look up at the woman who walked beside her.
"Well, in your first two years not many, but in your third year you have the option of choosing Care of Magical Creatures as an elective class. There you'd interact with Flobberworms, Fire Dwelling Salamanders, and many others." The Professor stated and watched as Olivia's eyes sparked up with excitement.
"Oh look at that! It's so cute." Ted's excited voice caught the attention of the two and made them look over to find him almost pressing his face against one of the shop windows. Looking up at the sign above the door which displayed the name Eeylops Owl Emporium made Olivia curiously walk over to look at the owl her father had spotted.
"Hogwarts have owls of their own which are used for delivering mail, but students are allowed to bring one themselves as a pet, or a cat or toad." The Professor spoke up as she noticed how fascinated by the owl both Hawthornes were.
"You know Liv, you have been asking me for a pet for quite a while now." Ted spoke in a thoughtful voice. His daughter's eyes quickly snapped to him full of happiness.
