"This place is dope!", my excitement can't really be hidden.
The trailer is small, but one of the coolest things I've ever seen."Don't lie straight to my face. It's a mess.", Billie chuckles, throwing a pillow that was previously on the floor to the nearest couch.
"Are you kidding me? You live in a fucking trailer!"
"Language!", a man's voice echoes through the room, before Nik enters the trailer too. "Just kidding, say whatever the fuck you want.", he smirks and throws a water bottle at his sister.
"Stop being annoying and leave us alone.", Billie throws the bottle back at him.
"You need privacy to get laid, got it.", his tone is ironic and he's more than amused by my loud gasp.
"Ignore him, he's being an ass like always."
Nik smiles knowingly and leaves the trailer with a chuckle.
"I kinda like him.", I mumble, amused.
"Yeah right.", she gestures me to sit down next to her.
"He's not that bad. I am sure he loves you very much. You're practically the only family member he has right now."
"That's true. We fight...like...a lot. But it's okay because we're siblings and that's what siblings do.", she dismissively says.
Her tone is forced to denote disinterest, but it's pretty clear that she really cares about her brother.
And then..."Oh my gosh Rainbow! Why didn't we think of that before?", I gasp out loud.
She looks at me, confused. "First of all, that nickname was awful. Secondly, what are you talking about?"
"Sibling relationships! One of the strongest and loveliest bonds to ever exist! Why didn't we write anything about that?"
She scratches the back of her wrist nervously and nods uncertainty. "I guess we could add it to the assignment."
"Great. We should discuss about our habits with our siblings and therefore write down the advantages and disadvantages of having siblings.", I jokingly mumble.
She doesn't smile. She nods again, without another word.
"Hey what's the deal now?", I ask softly, not wanting to push her too much. "You know, this is why I called you Rainbow. It just got out spontaneously, since my brain has dealt with the idea of never figuring out your moods and emotions. If I can't comprehend what color you are...you're a mix of all the colors for me. Your mood changes so fast..."
She finally weakly smiles and turns to look at me. "That sounded too romantic, even for you."
"Oh, shut up. What got you so grumpy all of a sudden?"
Her smile slowly fades away again. "It's nothing. Sometimes when the topic <<family>> comes up, I get all nostalgic. Yeah, I have feelings too. ", she giggles, but her eyes are still serious.
I sympathetically smile and dare to caress the ends of her blue hair. She turns to me, surprised by my gesture.
"Sorry.", I mutter and pull my hand away.
I hope I didn't just cross the line."It's okay, I am just not used to this kind of...gestures.", she shakes her head and stares at my hand, which is back on my lap. "Nik was never that demonstrative."
She thoughtfully stares at me for a few seconds, before blinking nervously.Suddenly, very slowly, she reaches out and brushes her knuckles against mine softly. I gulp audibly and stare at her, completely shocked.
Would it be too much if I tried something?
I move my hand above hers carefully and interlock our hands. It's sudden and leaves both of us staring at our fingers, tangled up together. It feels awkward, weird, but also warm and strangely familiar.
She looks at our joined hands, a puzzled expression on her face.
What exactly is happening right now?
"Thank you for being my partner in this project.", she suddenly blurts out, not taking her eyes off of our hands.
Where did this come from?
"You're welcome Rainbow. I think I actually enjoy your company.", I smile.
She looks up at me and smiles widely.
"You know, I am far from a rainbow. But if you insist on calling me that, I am not going to interfere.""As you shouldn't."
We both giggle and pull our hands away in order to grab our notes.
I kinda like this assignment.
