Christmas is over, new year is Here.

"New year resolutions?" I remember Lwazi asking me during the street born fire. I didn't even think about it. I told him I wanted to be free.

I have been too careful for far too long.

Matric results are coming out tomorrow. I got a message from The school to come see them about my results. Did I fail? I'm extremely nervous. I'm on my way to school. I decided to walk because... Well, I am in no rush to get there.

Whenever the school principal summons you, you just know you're in trouble. I have had enough trouble the past year and am praying that this year goes smoothly.

I deserve a break. Don't I?

Bracing myself for the hundredth time today, I knocked on the door with my heart beating out of my chest.

"Come on in" A voice shouted from inside the office.

I walked in.

"Good day, Sir" I greeted anxiously.

He looked at me through his glasses.

"Miss Dube. Have a seat"

I sat down. I have never been this nervous.

I sat there quietly watching him sign papers and furiously type on his laptop.

Get me out of my misery.

"You look nervous" He pointed out.

His comment made me more nervous. I shifted uncomfortably in my seat. I feel the tiny office walls closing in on me.

"You should be" He chuckled slightly.

Oh no.

-" because you got eight distinctions and... "

I threw up on the carpet.

Wait, what?

I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand.

"What?"

"Excuse me"

He went out then came back with a bucket of water and a mop. "Here" he gave them to me to clean up.

I mopped my vomit off the floor. My mind is completely blank. I have no idea what to make of this. My hands are trembling with fear.

I passed with eight distinctions? That means I passed all of my subjects with distinctions!

How did I do that?

A few tears escaped my eyes. I mopped my vomit and the few drops of tears coming down like rain.

"You did very good, Miss Dube" My principal walked over to wear I'm standing and handed me a napkin.

"Thank you" I stuttered.

"We have to fly to Jo'burg tonight. You will be appearing on the Matric results show tomorrow with other geniuses" He winked,"The department of Education will cover all our expenses" He explained animatedly.

"Didn't I say bring a parent? They need to sign a consent form and other documents. It's standard procedure"

"I..." I was interrupted by a loud knock on the door.

"Hold that thought" he Said just as he opened the door and Zoe, Gift and Cindy walked in.

"What's up nerd" Zoe greeted.

"Nerd" Gift winked at me

"Hi" Cindy said shyly.

"Hey guys"
