DECEMBER
narrator's pov:
"hey, did charlotte go to her room?" mackenzie asked jack.
"when she stormed off, she probably stayed there," jack suggested, taking out his key card.
"okay, thanks, jack," mackenzie acknowledged, "see you tomorrow."
jack waved goodbye to the blonde, and they both walked into their own rooms.
"hey," chloe greeted, "do you know what's up with charlotte? i heard she stormed off."
"yeah," mackenzie sighed, placing her belongings on the side table, "i don't know, she just seemed super weird."
"did anyone check on her?" chloe asked.
"huh, nobody did. i'll check on her in a few," mackenzie declared, flopping on her bed, "wait, where were you the entire time? i literally haven't seen you all day."
chloe laughed to herself, "zach and i spent the day hanging out. you know, eating at the café and swimming. it was way too cold to be outside, but we'll go snow-tubing with everyone tomorrow."
"that's great that you guys are good now," mackenzie remarked, "well, i'd better go check on charlotte."
mackenzie walked out of the hotel room, and knocked on the door of charlotte and daniel's shared room, "hello? charlotte?"
she heard the door being unlocked, but it wasn't charlotte who answered the door.
it was daniel, and his eyes were red and his cheeks were puffy.
"oh my gosh, daniel, what happened? is everything okay?" mackenzie inquired, cupping daniel's face.
"charlotte got upset," daniel mumbled.
"about what?" mackenzie asked back, walking inside the room.
"she thinks that you and me are so much closer, and would be better together," daniel explained, playing with his fingers.
"oh," mackenzie whispered.
"oh? that's it?" daniel queried, laughing.
"well, i don't know what to say," mackenzie admitted, shrugging her shoulders, "i'm sorry i had to avoid you."
"wait, you had to avoid me?" daniel interrogated, his eyebrows furrowing.
"um, it's complicated, but yes," mackenzie answered, "someone told me not to talk to you as much as before."
"let me guess, charlotte?" daniel scoffed.
mackenzie nodded her head, "hey, but i respect her. i understand why she feels like that."
daniel sniffled again, and mackenzie noticed another tear roll down his left cheek, "hey, dani, don't be sad. i'm sure you and charlotte will make up soon."
she sat down next to him on his bed, and stared into his ocean eyes. although, daniel wasn't staring at her eyes.
he was staring at her lips.
"kenz... i need you," daniel whispered, moving closer to her, "i need you right now."
"okay, what do you need me for?" mackenzie replied, tilting her head.
their faces were just inches apart, and daniel could smell the sweet fragrance of mackenzie's perfume. her heart continued to beat faster each millisecond, and she kept thinking about how what they were doing could lead up to so many consequences.
"daniel, do you really want to do this?" mackenzie asked, looking down.
he took his pointer finger, and lifted up her chin to make eye contact, "there's nothing, or no one, i want more."
out of nowhere, daniel's plump lips met hers. instantly, mackenzie's doubt and hesitance went away, and they both sunk deeper in the kiss. daniel moved his hands from mackenzie's cheeks down to her waist, and she brought her hands up to his shoulders.
the kiss deepened even more, and before she knew it, daniel had mackenzie pinned to the wall. the kiss fastened, and mackenzie struggled to keep up.
"oh my gosh," mackenzie mumbled in between kisses, "how do you and charlotte do this all the time?"
"we don't," daniel replied, out of breath.
he was contemplating whether or not to go even further and bring mackenzie to the bed.
is she ready?, daniel thought.
before he was going to make his next move, the sound of repeated knocks on the door startled the two. they jumped from their position, and slowly crept towards the door.
"daniel? are you still up?" a familiar voice asked.
"shoot, it's charlotte," daniel whispered.
"oh my gosh, she can't see me!" mackenzie whisper-shouted, pacing back and forth.
"um, go in the closet!" daniel suggested, pointing across the room.
mackenzie ran inside the closet, and daniel opened the door for charlotte.
"dani, i'm so sorry i blew up on you. i trust you, and i know that you and mackenzie are just friends. in fact, i'm happy you guys are talking again," charlotte remarked, bear-hugging her boyfriend.
daniel stood there, thinking about what just happened a few seconds ago.
"uh, it's okay, char. do you want to go to bed? it's late," daniel suggested.
"yeah, i went to waverly's room, but i couldn't stand the awkwardness between her and jonah," charlotte laughed, sinking into her own bed, "goodnight daniel, i love you."
"u-um, goodnight," daniel stammered, turning the light off.
-
once charlotte was fast asleep, daniel snuck mackenzie out of their room.
"can we please not tell anyone about what happened tonight, okay?" mackenzie asked.
daniel nodded his head, "nobody can know."
"well, goodnight, i guess," mackenzie declared, walking into her room.
chloe was already fast asleep, and mackenzie couldn't stop thinking about what happened.
"it was so wrong of me to do that," mackenzie mumbled to herself, "how could i do that to charlotte? i'm a terrible person. daniel is taken, i shouldn't have kissed him. this all shouldn't have happened."
