mackenzie hated the feeling of having to avoid daniel. even though charlotte asked her to just lessen their conversations, she still felt as if she was completely not allowed to speak to him.

"why so glum, chum?" lillian inquired, walking next to mackenzie in the hallways.

"what do you mean?" mackenzie asked back.

"duh, your instagram post. what's up with the sad caption?" lillian questioned.

"i don't even know anymore," mackenzie sighed, "i feel like a bad person."

"you're the sweetest person i've ever met, kenzie, there's no way you could do anything bad," lillian scoffed.

"i kind of have a crush on daniel, but charlotte told me to talk to him less," mackenzie whispered.

"okay, now that's a problem," lillian replied, "wait, you still like him? didn't you tell charlotte that you don't?"

"well, of course i told her that i don't. i believe that friends come before guys, so she deserves to be happy even if i'm not letting myself be as happy," mackenzie declared, "she doesn't know that i like him, but she noticed that daniel and i are pretty good friends. she told me that she thinks daniel is going to officially ask her out, so she asked me to lay low."

"wait, seriously?!" lillian shrieked, "as much as she's our friend, she doesn't have the right to say that to you."

"i know, but i get where she's coming from. maybe she's afraid that if him and i get closer, he won't ask her out," mackenzie mentioned.

"so, now what's going to happen?" lillian questioned.

"well, i guess i'm not going to talk to him as much as i used to," mackenzie answered, "i have to control my feelings for the sake of charlotte."
