narrator's pov:

"your homework tonight will be whatever you don't finish in class," mr. frank declared.

"but, mr. frank, these are our science fair projects. are you saying we have to finish them tonight?" lillian inquired.

"yes, we will not be working on them in class anymore," mr. frank answered.

"what? jonah and i are nowhere near done," waverly groaned.

"are you trying to expose the fact that we never work on our project, wave?" jonah whispered.

"only my friends can call me that, jonah," waverly stated.

"well, if you guys are nowhere near done, you might as well work hard tonight," mr. frank pointed out, raising his eyebrows, "is anybody here done?"

the only pairs who raised their hands were charlotte and daniel and jack and mackenzie.

the bell rang, signaling the students to head to lunch. mr. frank said, "they must be completed before this period tomorrow!"

"i can't believe we have to finish our entire project tonight," chloe groaned.

"mackenzie and i finished," jack bragged.

"you mean she did the work?" corbyn asked.

"she said she doesn't trust me doing the work, so she just did it herself," jack replied.

"well, charlotte and i actually worked hard and we both did the work," daniel stated.

"charlotte's nice, i like her," chloe remarked.

"yeah, daniel probably does, too," jonah teased.

"i mean, i don't know," daniel mumbled, blushing.

"what about mackenzie? didn't you guys go trick-or-treating?" chloe asked.

"mackenzie's cool, but i guess i got to know charlotte better because we're physics partners," daniel explained, "i might ask her to the winter dance, but i don't know."

when football and cheer practice ended, the pairs went to each other's houses to work on their science fair projects.

jonah went to waverly's, chloe went to zach's, and lillian went to corbyn's.

even though charlotte and daniel completed their project, they still decided to hangout.

"okay, it's almost four. if we work hard enough, i think we can finish at least before nine," waverly declared.

"we did the procedure. all we have to do is the explanations, results, and stuff like that," jonah added.

the two worked diligently for a while, but immediately became distracted.

"shut up!" waverly screamed, showing jonah her phone.
