FEBRUARY

narrator's pov:

a month has passed, and there had been no connections between corbyn and lillian. the only two people of their friend group who remained close were waverly and jonah, but everyone else's friendships began to fade. even daniel and mackenzie weren't as close compared to how they were a few months prior.

ever since zach admitted his feelings for chloe, the blonde had been distant with him. they never talked about it, and weren't sure when they finally would. from then on, chloe resorted to talking to jack about everything.

"did you watch the tiktoks i sent you?" chloe asked jack over facetime.

"unfortunately, yes," jack replied, "you send me at least fifteen tiktoks a day, can't you send some to other people?"

chloe huffed, "i used to send tiktoks to zach all the time, and now i can't."

"what's stopping you?" jack asked, tilting his head.

chloe thought about it, and realized that there truly wasn't anything stopping her.

"i'm a genius, i know," jack remarked.

"okay, i need to talk to zach," chloe declared, hanging up from jack.

sitting on the swings, chloe waited for zach to arrive. whenever they were younger, they would always play at the riverview park until the sun was about to set.

chloe knew zach was there once someone started to push her on the swings, "thank you for coming."

"of course," zach remarked.

"i know the last time we truly talked to each other was on new year's eve, and i'm sorry that i blew up at you," chloe apologized.

"you don't need to apologize, chloe, i get why you were upset," zach replied, "i know how much you hate dishonesty, yet i still lied to you. if anything, i'm sorry."

chloe smiled, "it was nice to hear that, zach."

the two continued to smile and stare at each other. even if it just lasted for seconds, it felt like hours, and they didn't want to stop any time soon.

breaking the gaze, chloe declared, "wait, i still have one last question."

"what is it?" zach asked.

"since when did you like me?" chloe laughed, running her fingers through her blonde hair, "i never really knew, zach."

zach smirked, "come on, chloe. i'm pretty sure everybody knew."

"how?" chloe inquired.

"well, for starters, remember our first fight?" zach questioned, earning a nod from chloe, "it was when i blew up at you and went off about how you're so oblivious about something."

"oh, now i get what that something was," chloe remarked, "that's also why we had that disagreement about ethan, and why you told him bad things about me. it wasn't mainly about you not wanting him and me to be official, it was about how you like me."

zach nodded, "does it all add up now?"

"yeah, it does," chloe answered, "wait, i don't mean to make this awkward, but do you still like me?"

"of course i still like you," zach responded, "all of the other guys have liked you at one point in their lives, but i'm the only one whose feelings remained for so long."

"that's sweet, zach," chloe declared, "i'm sorry if i'm being weird, but this is kind of new to me. you're always going to be my best friend, but i've never dealt with something like this before. sure, some guys have liked me here and there, but you actually matter. you're important to me, zach."

"wait," zach interrupted, "chloe, i have to ask... do you like me?"

chloe shrugged, "i never thought about liking you that way."

"would you ever consider it?" zach questioned.

chloe shrugged again.

"you know, chloe, i think i know a method that will let you know if you feel the same way towards me," zach recommended, clearing his throat, "we're going to kiss, and you have to tell me how you feel after. if you don't feel any different, then you don't like me romantically. but, if you feel something else, then that means something."

chloe was a little bit nervous. she hadn't experienced her first kiss yet, and now she was about to have it. she was also not ready to learn her true feelings for zach.

"alright, i guess i'm in," chloe replied.

zach smirked, "okay, i'm going to kiss you now."

chloe nodded, and zach slowly attached his lips to hers. for months, zach had been longing for this moment. to chloe's surprise, their lips molded perfectly and the moment felt like it could last forever. zach released, and smiled, "so, how do you feel?"

chloe was speechless. after the kiss, everything seemed different, but she wasn't expecting to feel that way.

and she didn't want to admit it.

"u-um, i-i ha-ha," chloe stammered, "i have to go."

the blonde stood up from the swing, and ran back home.
