narrator's pov:

"i feel like a terrible person," waverly groaned, laying her head down at the lunch table.

"wait, why did you kiss jonah in the first place?" mackenzie asked.

after hearing mackenzie's question, waverly explained her dream and how it confused her feelings.

"you've realized that you still have feelings for jonah?" lillian teased.

waverly nodded her head.

"i knew it the whole time!" lillian remarked.

"what's going to happen with jack?" chloe inquired, tilting her head.

the redhead shrugged, "i don't know. he saw jonah and i kiss in the halls, and he was pissed. i told him i'd explain, but he said to save it."

"when do you think you're going to try to talk to him?" charlotte queried.

"try tomorrow. jack always needs a little bit of time to cool off and think everything over," chloe suggested.

"good point," waverly complimented, "after all, you guys are best friends."

-

and so, waverly did exactly what chloe had recommended. the night before, she texted jack to meet her at donna's diner, and he agreed. waverly waited for jack with a plate of fries, and two vanilla milkshakes in front of her.

after fifteen minutes, jack never showed up. waverly sighed, and immediately assumed that he stood her up. she grabbed her purse and was about to leave, but once her head turned to the left, she saw him.

although, it wasn't the guy she was expecting.

"jonah, what are you doing here?" waverly asked.

"jack told me you wanted to talk to him, so he asked me to go instead," jonah answered, "he figured that we could talk things out between us before we explain everything to him."

waverly nodded her head as jonah took a seat on the opposite side of the booth, "so, we kissed."

"yeah," jonah lightly chuckled, "do you regret it happening?"

"jonah, i like you," waverly blurted out.

"waverly, i'm sorry, but i don't feel that way," jonah admitted.

"oh," waverly mumbled.

the two sat in silence, their heads both looking down. jonah declared, "i don't like you, waverly, i love you."

the redhead's smile immediately grew back, "jonah, you scared me."

jonah laughed, "wait, what made you realize your feelings?"

waverly took a deep breath, "um, this is going to sound stupid, but i had a dream about you and it made me understand everything."

"well, that's great because i dream about you all the time," jonah remarked.

she smiled, but her face immediately stiffened, "wait, what about jack?"

"don't worry, he talked to me," jonah reassured, "he said that he'll be okay with whatever choice is made, whether you choose to stay with him or not."

"you see, jonah, i like you a lot, but i don't want to cut things off with jack just so i could be with you, you know what i mean?" waverly explained, "i think we should wait a little bit before we start anything."

jonah nodded, "i understand, and i'll wait for you and the right time."

-

the next few days were awkward for waverly and jack. during group hangouts and class, they didn't talk to each other as much compared to when they were together.

around one week after jonah and waverly talked things out was when the redhead asked jack to meet her at a local park. waverly explained the situation going on with jonah, and luckily, jack was supportive.

"you both are my friends, but i really wasn't thinking about jonah when i started to make some moves," jack admitted, "you're a great person, waverly, and i'll always love you. from now on, as a friend."

"thanks, jack, i'll always love you too. you were, and still are, so important to me," waverly agreed.

jack nodded, "i'm glad we were able to talk this out, and i wish you and jonah the best. you're one of my best friends, and i'd hate for our friendship to go away."

"we'll always be friends," waverly remarked.

the two stood in front of each other, and started to bid their farewells.

"goodbye, jack, thank you for everything," waverly whispered, hugging him as a lover for the last time.

"goodbye, waverly, i wouldn't change anything we had for the world," jack replied.

they released from each other's arms, and walked their separate ways back to their homes. as waverly walked, tears began to fall from her eyes. jack was the guy who she fell in love with for years, and even if she found someone new, it still hurts her a little bit to finally let go of all those feelings.
