The next day started like usual and Cindy was dropped off at school a hundred feet away, so that her aunt didn't break the promise.
"Have a good day!" She yelled out the window and Cindy waved back at her. "Don't let anyone bully you either!"
"I won't!" Cindy headed for the first class as happy as she could be. It was a beautiful day and she had plans of enjoying it to the fullest.
She rounded a corner and almost ran right smack into Bruno. Looking up, her eyes rested on a newly made wound right above his left eyebrow. It extended from the brim of his hair to the edge of his brow.
"What happened to you in a day?" She reached out to touch it when he grabbed her wrist.
"None of your business." He replied harshly before letting her go. 'You need to get to class before you end up late."
"Of course!" She shrugged. "But, shouldn't you as well?"
He didn't say anything but snickered at her. She was dumbfounded. Didn't he go to class yesterday? Why wasn't he going today. No. He had to go! This was school, not his playground.
"You have to attend classes or you won't graduate." She tried to reason. "If you don't graduate, you won't get a good job or go to collage. If you don't get a job or go to collage you'll end up a freelouder at your mom's for a long time." She was rambling on now so Bruno covered her mouth and smirked.
"You don't have to worry about me, Cindy, was it?" She nodded with his hand still on her mouth. "Why don't cha just go to class by yourself and hope more people show up?" He patted her head. "You'll have to hope really hard."
Why was he acting like this when he was such a nice guy just yesterday? It didn't make any sense, but the bell rang so Cindy had to leave him to his own devices and headed for the first class once again.
While walking there she passed a couple of guys talking to each other.
"Did you hear about the cut on the boss's face?" The first one asked the second with a disbelieving expression.
The second nodded. "You mean the rumor that a senior gave it to him when he left because he heard that he sent the newbie through the back and out of reach? It was so weird of the boss to do such a thing. Do you think it's cause the newb's a girl?"
"Maybe." The first replied hesitantly. "But I want the boss to protect me with those skills. Did you see the way he fought the senior? He has serious moves that could probably kill someone."
"I know!" The second one balled his hands into fists and started to punch the air. That was all they said about the subject before going on to all the great fighters of the world and fighters of the movies.
"He did what for me?" Cindy asked as if there was someone to answer. "Why?" She entered the classroom to see Kevin and the rest of the group of underlings. "Kevin!" She rushed to his desk as his feet sat on top and he leaned back.
"What?" He asked nonchalantly. "Do you need something?"
"I have a question I think you can answer." She tapped the ends of her pointer fingers together as she tried to avoid eye contact. "Is it true that Bruno got beaten up for me yesterday?" There was a silent pause and she turned to Kevin. He was wide-eyed and his mouth was open. "Is that a yes?" She dropped her arms. "Why?"
Pulling himself together Kevin put his feet down. "That's what everyone in this school would like to know. He took on twelve seniors who were supposedly waiting for the new girl. Why the boss actually faced them is a wonder, but they didn't listen to him when he said to leave you alone."
"He went up against twelve men!?" Cindy slammed down on Kevin's desk. "What were the seniors thinking?"
"Yeah. I know." Kevin chuckled. "They should have come at him with more than that! What in the world did they think twelve little guys were going to do? Beat the boss? Impossible."
"Hey, Kevin!" One of the other followers yelled as he stood by a window waving him over. "Get a load of this action."
"What is it?" Kevin got up excitedly and went to see the scene out side. "Wow!" He pumped his arm in the air. "Go boss!"
Cindy looked over at them in terror. What was going on? She also needed to know so she made her way over and stared down at Bruno who stood in front of four guys, who Cindy assumed were seniors by how old they appeared. Three of them were standing, yet one was on the ground holding his stomach, apparently what she had missed was Bruno knocking the wind out of him.
She kept on staring as one of the standing seniors attacked the boss. The other punched with his right fist but the boss put his hand to his ear and throw it out firmly to block the oncoming danger. After doing so, the boss proceeded to grab the arm and kick the guy's stomach causing him to topple over. The next also punched at him, but with the left hand, this didn't make the boss change his block.
"Get him!" Kevin yelled while lifting his own fists and punching the air.
Bruno stepped in with the block then side kicked the other in the head. The last one glanced at his fallen comrades then to Bruno furiously. This one decided to kick instead of punching. Lifting his right leg, he flattened his foot and aimed for the boss's head. Without flinching at the attack, the boss lifted his right arm to the level of his head and once the kick hit he wrapped his arm around the ankle. Now the older was trapped and on lose footing. Taking this into account, the boss swiped the others foot with his own and the senior landed on the ground with a thud.
"Yeah!" The group watching from the window cheered in unison. "That showed those stupid old guys!" The boys went around high fiving each other as Cindy looked on at the boss as he headed toward the door to the school.
"Alrighty class." The teacher spoke walking into the room. "It's time for my lesson!" He clapped his hands after placing down his papers. "I know how much you guys love my lessons seeing how you all came in today."
"What?" Kevin scanned the room. "The boss isn't coming to class today?" He picked up his bag. "I'm not here if he isn't. After yesterday I thought he was going to show." He chortled. "Guess he's still our school hating leader." He sighed. "Later." As he waved Kevin exited the room followed by every other boy there.
"What?" The teacher's expression changed to a frown. "And here I was thinking I may actually get more teaching time..." He sniffled a little before catching a glimpse of Cindy. "At least you're here. Shall we?" He turned to the chalk board. Cindy only took her seat and stared out of the window.
