The next day Cindy woke up and looked around, she found that she was on the floor and looked down at her right arm to find a bruise, but didn't think anything about it, she assumed that it was from falling out of bed.
So on went her day. She and Clara had to be more careful on the way to school, but they arrived safely and Cindy headed for the first class.
She entered the room to find two new faces she had never seen before, or... She stared at them for a moment feeling that she had seen them before. Not knowing where, she headed to Bruno who was also staring at them, but from his seat.
"Who are they?" She asked sitting down in her spot and placing her bags on the floor.
"Trouble..." Bruno muttered without turning to her, surprising Cindy. Did he know them personally? Why did he seem to hate them?
"Why do you say that?" She asked curious to how they met. "Do you hate them?"
"No..." He sneered at them. He obviously wasn't glad of their company, but the question was why.
"So..." She started when the Teacher walked in with a grin on his face.
"It's time for..." He tapped on his desk a little for a drum roll affect. "Class!" He threw his hands in the air with glee. "Now, let's start with the new-comers." He turned to the two Cindy had been wondering about since she entered.
"Class." Teacher continued happily. "These lovely people are Kalila and Kadin Johnson" There was a girl, Kalila, and a boy, Kadin who, even though they weren't identical, were obviously twins. They looked as close as a girl and boy pair of twins were going to get. The girl even had short hair to match more up with the boy.
"Please treat us well!" Kadin smiled while waving. "We know it's weird for us to join in the middle of the school year, but please don't mind it."
"Welcome!" Kevin couldn't help waving back at Kadin. He just loved to wave. "We welcome you two to our room of class."
Just then a long thud was heard and everyone jerked towards Bruno and his turned over desk as he sat with his head down, leaving no one able to see his face.
"Don't try to speak for everyone." Bruno grumbled as he looked up with a cold glare. Even when Bruno protested about helping the police with his powers and was extremely annoyed at Cindy, he still didn't look as ticked off as he did then. "I never said I was going to welcome them."
"Boss..." Kevin spoke to Bruno just like he had when she first showed up. "If you don't want them, we can make them leave." Suddenly the atmosphere thickened and everyone was still, especially the two at the front of the classroom.
"Did I say that I wanted you to do that?" Bruno asked staring at Kevin out of his peripheral vision. "All I said is that I don't want you to speak for the whole class."
Kevin's mouth opened slightly before he shut it tightly and nodded.
"Carry on with class." Bruno commanded as he stood up. "I don't feel like it today."
"You can't just not-" Cindy tried to grab Bruno's sleeve, but he shot a glance at her and she stopped inches away. "Feel... like..." She didn't even know what she was doing anymore. Wasn't this the person that Bruno was?
Without another word, Bruno left the room and everyone didn't dare stir.
Cindy still couldn't believe the way that Bruno had acted earlier, is she decided to look for him at lunch time and found him on the roof. He was leaning on the railing, just staring out into the abyss.
"So..." She started with some reserve. The last thing she needed was him getting mad at her. 'Want to tell me what happened back there?"
"No." He didn't even flinch at her approach. "It doesn't matter. You could say I don't like new-comers or whatever you want. It won't phase me."
"Being against new students and throwing a tantrum when people show up is two different things." she countered with a harrumph.
"I wasn't!" He spun around with extreme speed, giving Cindy another shock. What was up with him?
"They-" He tried to figure out what he was saying, but he didn't even know, so he gave up with a sigh. "I just don't like them."
"It's not like you to show feelings." Cindy commented sarcastically, and Bruno only turned to her with sad eyes. Were the two new guys really that bad? What had they done?
"Do you know them?" She finally got her courage up and asked what was on her mind.
"They... Helped with your rescue." He mumbled a little ashamed. Was this really the way someone treats the rescuers of their friend?
"Then why do you not trust them?" She continued more confused than when they started. "Shouldn't we be thanking them?" Suddenly she thought of something. "Did they mistreat you?"
"No." He shrugged. "Beside the whole leave it to the pros speech you get from their kind, but such things wouldn't do this to me."
"So you're saying you don't even know why you did such a thing?" Cindy question nervously not knowing what could set him off.
"Yeah... I guess." He shrugged again and went back to staring off into the distance. "I've never done such a thing before. I shocked myself when I knocked over the desk. I still can't understand it."
"It is strange." Cindy said sitting down on the roof next to him. "Is it a feeling you get looking at them... Or is it more?" She peered over at him and he turned his head toward her.
"It's not my power if that's what you when." He told her flatly. "Wouldn't I need to be transformed to use it?" He swung his head back to the endless world in front of him. "I will never be transformed in front of others."
"That's true." She sighed rolling her head. "Why is everything so complicated!?" She yelled as she pulled her legs toward herself and wrapped her arms around them. "Why can't my life go back to the way it was? Saving the police officer's butts when they didn't know what to do, Using my power to save the world, laughing with friends, a normal life!"
"Only one thing you said was normal..." Bruno rolled his eyes at her outburst. Was she even thinking about the words coming out of her mouth? "Wait..." Bruno stopped a moment to think about it. "What was your life like before you came here?"
"Interested?" She leaned toward him with sparkling eyes.
"Duh." He shook his head at her. "Otherwise I wouldn't have asked, now would I?"
Displeased with his reaction, Cindy leaned back on the railing and thought how to explain.
"Besides my crime-fighting after school work, I was a normal student." She smiled at the memories. "I wasn't popular, but I had friends. We did lots of things together."
"Really..." Bruno nodded slowly. Why was he sad when all she did was answer his question? Did he want her to answer to be crazy like she was a out-cast with no friends because they thought her enjoyment of school was weird? Or at least something simple like she was homeschooled, but wouldn't that be crazy in itself because she would have been taught by Clara?
"Sorry I ruined your dreams about my past." Cindy spoke with a hint of annoyance in her tone. "I was just your everyday, run of the mill, student."
The two of them joked on and on about all the things Bruno expected her background to be and even what he didn't, but talked as if it was something he thought of. They did this till the bell rang for the end of the day.
"Isn't teacher going to be sad or angry at you for missing class?" Bruno asked from his now sitting position. "You were supposed to be the good girl that fulfilled his dreams of a student who cared."
"I can miss a few classes." She spoke without looking him in the eyes, knowing if he saw the face she was making he wouldn't believe her. "I'll make it up to him."
