The next day Cindy tried several times to talk to Bruno, but there seemed to be something in her way every time. It took all day for her to finally get a chance. So she walked up to him and the room grew quiet with everyone staring at her.
Kevin was the one who spoke first. "What?" He growled. "You ready to apologize? To late! If you wanted to say sorry, you should have done it sooner!"
"Bruno..." She started softly, not wanting to upset him anymore. "I may have been there... But not," she fingers intertwined. She knew how she sounded, but it was going to have to go down this way if she wanted anything out of it. "at the same time."
Bruno stared at her intently. "What's that even mean?" She didn't even fully understand the meaning to her words, but they were the best way to describe what she felt was going on.
She scanned the room nervously. "I believe it has to do with something you and I only know," She could see Kevin roll his eyes in her peripheral vision, and Bruno's sharpened as she continued. "and I would like to tell you in private..."
Bruno hesitated a moment before getting up and following her to the roof. Kevin tried to follow, but with a hand up, Bruno easily made him stop in place.
The sun was setting, giving the world a orange light as they stood on top of the school.
"Something has been happening, something that doesn't make sense." Cindy rain her hand through her hair nervously. "I think that your sighting of me last night may be an answer to the happenings."
"What are you talking about?" Bruno had enough of her confusing words, and wanted a clear answer. "How could you have been there, but not at the same time? That's what I want to know." He demanded, enough of her excuses. "The reason I came up here with you."
She was hurt that he wasn't even trying to hide the fact he didn't want to be there, but knew she needed to tell him. "I think that someone...." She paused then tried again. "I think that I have been doing things without my realization."
"You have been doing things, you personally haven't?" Bruno rolled his eyes. "What type of stupid way out of guilt is that?" He was shaking his head and turned to walk away.
"Wait!" She grabbed his shirt and pushed her arm toward him. "I have an idea!" She quickly rolled up her sleeve and showed him her gash.
"Huh?" He was starting to think she was believing her own craziness. "You can't possible be thinking that someone or something was taking control of you and making you do something without you knowing, can you?"
"I can and do." She released him and pointed at her wound. "Look! I have been waking up with strange marks on my body that I have no idea where they come from. Everything from small bruises to long scratches like this one. I was going to ask you about it, but then you told me about my hitting you, or my not really hitting you..."
Bruno stared at the day old cut. Was what she saying even worthy of consideration?... Then again, they both had powers, why couldn't someone else? Could some one have the ability to control someone?
"So, let's say that someone is controlling you when you're asleep." Bruno spoke as Cindy's eyes brightened. "Then what?" She thought about it a moment, then turned pale. "You have no clue, right?" She nodded and he let out a long sigh. "That is indeed a problem."
"But my mind has been full of proving my innocence..." She countered. "I didn't have time to think about everything! That's why I wanted to tell you about the wounds."
"Yes, but what was I gonna do? Hmm?" He tilted his head, still not completely convinced at what she was trying to sell. Why was he even considering to buy the story? "Were you going to ask me to help you find out who or what's doing it to you?"
"Yes!" She shouted fixing her sleeve. "That was the whole reason I was going to you! Because I could trust you to help me."
"I have been helping you, haven't I?" He stood up straight and Cindy suddenly realized how much taller he was than her. "Yet you don't seem very considerate about it?"
"But I didn't hit you!" She grabbed his arm. "You should know that!" She felt her anger rising. Why did his opinion of her matter so much? "You should know that I couldn't do something like that! Nor would I if I could!"
"Will you stop yelling?"
"NO!" She raised her voice louder, holding back tears. "I will not! I won't until you think about it! Just think! When have I ever, ever given you the impression that I would hit someone as close to me as you!?"
Bruno was silent as his expression turned to a thoughtful one. When? Had she ever had the look of malice on her face like she did that night? But couldn't that have just been her acting? Why would she act? What was to be gained from being on his good side?
"You get it?" Cindy released her captive when she noticed the look of complete confusion on his face. "I know that you still haven't absorbed the whole power thing, so the fact that more people than just us have them, may be a lot to handle, but I can tell you now, that there are many with different powers. It isn't as uncommon as you may believe it to be."
"Ok..." Bruno gulped the lump in his throat. "I trust you."
