Several days passed in what felt like years for Cindy, however something was bothering her. Everyday she would wake up with a new injury, with no recognition of when, where, or even how she got them. Then it got worse.
She walked out of her room and noticed her aunt on the couch, shocking her, because her aunt usually woke up right before she had to drop her off at school.
"What's wrong?" Clara asked when she saw Cindy staring at her.
"When have you ever been up by now?" She replied laughing. "You aren't turning into a mourning person are you?"
"Oh, no!" Clara rolled her eyes. "Never. I was watching a marathon of my favorite movies."
"The ones with what's-his-name?" Cindy inquired, not actually caring.
"Don't you know it!" Clara raised and lowered her eyebrows in a playful motion.
After a little bit they left and Cindy walked into the school still thinking about all the bruises and scrapes and headed to Bruno, hoping beyond hope, he would be able to help her figure it out.
"Hey Bruno." She walked up to him rolling up one sleeve to reveal the long scratch. "Can you-" She stoped as her eyes made contact with his cold ones. He also had a new wound. There were a few slashes on his face as if someone attacked him and got him with their nails. "What...?"
"That's what we'd like to know." Kevin walked over with his arms crossed. "After all we've done for you? What were you thinking?!" Kevin lifted his fist to strike her, but Bruno grasped his wrist. "Why-?"
"She hasn't told us her side of the story yet." Bruno cut him off with a serious, leader tone. "Innocent till proven guilty, there may be a reason."
"She is guilty!" The rest of the boys shouted angrily. "We clearly saw her hit you!"
"What?!" Cindy yelled in confusion. What could they be talking about? "I haven't hit anyone! I am being falsely accused!"
"How can you say that?" Kevin scoffed. "You did that to the boss's face and dare to say you haven't hit anyone?" He scowled at her. "And we thought you trustworthy!"
"Will everyone stop yelling?" Bruno glared at the boys. "You're going to give me a headache." Everyone shushed, but no one stopped staring at Cindy.
"Bruno..." She took a step closer to him. "I don't know what's going on, but I have no remembrance of hitting you."
"Then what happened last night?" Bruno asked with a calm expression, but a tone, that stated he wasn't so in the inside. "Outside of the mall."
"I didn't go to the mall last night." Cindy spoke trying to remember what she had done the previous day. It was just like all the rest, and since there were all those kidnap attempts, she hadn't been out much. "I went home and to sleep after dinner."
"That's a lie!" The room hushed as a loud bang was heard through-out the room. Cindy stumbled a bit back not understanding. "I saw you..." Bruno was the one who had shouted this time. "You were there. We saw you..."
"I don't get it..." Cindy mumbled under her breath. Wasn't everything alright all up to now? Why were they suddenly acting this way?
"Alright everyone." The teacher spoke walking into the room. "Wow..." He stopped and stared at the silent students. "What's with the tense atmosphere?"
"You can ask the back stabber." Kevin replied harshly. "Unless she doesn't remember what we were talking about."
"Cindy?" Sir teacher turned to her as she had her head bent. "What's going on?" She didn't reply, so he asked again. "Miss Cindy. What's wrong?"
"I... " She responded slowly. "...Need to go." She pushed her bag's strap further up her shoulder as she turned away and exited the room.
The teacher lifted his hand to the rest of them and chances after Cindy. After a few minutes of a failed attempt to catch her, he came back into the room huffing and puffing.
"Who did what to Cindy?" No one looked him in his eyes. It wasn't their fault she was a backstabber.
