Cindy stood on the roof, holding the railing that kept anyone from falling as she sighed. "I don't feel like I'm getting any closer to them..." She stared off into the abyss waiting, wanting, somthing to happen. She wasn't sure about anything anymore. Everything she had been fighting for might not have been actually what she thought it was. All she could think about was how her aunt and everyone else had lied to her all those years. So, so many times they had told her about how her parents had abandoned her, leaving her in Clara's care, but now she was being told by them that they had wanted to bring her with them?To have her use her powers for their side? She couldn't believe that her relatives had taken her away from them so they couldn't corrupt her. Was that true? Was she to believe anything they say? They were the ones who left her, right? That was the true story, not the one that they were trying to sell her? Was she buying?
"No!" She shook her head. "Why should I believe any of what those traitors said? They left and I will chose to believe those who love me." Just as she set this into her mind she felt a heavy burden lift off her heart.
"No sir." Kevin's voice rang through the air. "I made sure that no one could enter just like every day. You can do what you like by yourself without interruption."
"Good." Was the only reply from the boss.
Scared that something might happen if they found her there, Cindy rushed to the back of the entrance where no one would be able to see her unless they were trying to. She heard the door open and foot steps of the boss entering by himself.
There was a few minutes of silence on both parts before Bruno started to make noises of pain. Cindy didn't know what to do as the sound intensified. Not wanting to have a person die on her watch she ran over to him without a second thought.
She turned the corner and saw him sitting on the floor holding his right hand tightly with his left and breathing roughly. Now even more worried she dashed over to him trying to remain calm, her freaking out wouldn't help anyone.
"Are you okay?" She bent down to help when he jerked his head to glare at her. "What's wrong?" Her eyes widened at the vexed look he was giving her. She was just trying to help him not kill his puppy.
"Why are you here?" He asked with a tone of anguish. "I specifically told them not to let anyone on the roof. This is my area, no one..." He fell further to the ground and she quickly latched onto him.
"I don't care if you like your privacy or not!" She barked feeling a twinge of annoyance. "You're in pain and you want me to ignore it? You need help and I plan to get it. Wait here, I'm going for a teacher."
Cindy rose to find the first teacher she may see on her way to their lounge when Bruno grabbed her arm with his left hand and grunted.
"You can't." He uttered under his breath, still in pain. "It'll go away, just give it a bit and I'll be fine."
"Fine?" She stared down at the once strong and powerful leader of all the boys as he twisted in pain but didn't want any help to relive him of his sorrow.
"Please." He let go of her and breathed in deeply. "It's almost over." Grabbing his right hand once again, he exhaled. "There," He stood up straight and looked down at her. "It's over with already."
"You hang out here every time you start to feel like this?" She asked shocked. "Why haven't you told anyone about this?"
"Because I don't even know what it is." Was the quick retort. "What do you what me to tell them? 'Hey I have this weird bizarre pain in my right hand'" He lifted his said hand as he continued. "'that comes and goes as it pleases.'?" he shook his head. "Not in your life."
"When you say pain," She thought for a moment. "What type?" She didn't believe it was anything like what she had in mind but she needed to know for sure. Random pains that come and go that he doesn't know what to do with? was it actually that far fetched?
"Just like if it wants to do something it can't, or maybe more like it feels like it should be able to do something, and I feel these prickly sensations all through out it like when one of your ligaments fall asleep but worse and it doesn't stop for a few minutes, some times nice and short like today and sometimes I can't move for half-an-hour." He caught a glimpse of her distant expression and shrugged. "See, it doesn't make sense."
"No!" She grabbed his arm. "I get it! I had the same feeling before I master my abilities." She couldn't stop herself from feeling the way she did. He was the only other person she knew who had a power.
"Abilities?" He ripped his arm out of her hand. "What are you talking about? What abilities? Your love of school? I don't have that I assure you."
"No." She stepped back and breathed in. Lifting her hand she didn't open her eyes but she knew he was confused at the action. She clenched her hand and dropped it like she always did in her transformation and felt herself changing and the eyes that were watching her grow.
"What is this?" He asked moving back until his back was on the railing. "What are you? Who are you?"
"I'm a..." She thought about it a moment. "I'm just unique?" It was more like a question the way she said it but he nodded as if he could even somewhat understand what was going on. "Come here." She waved him over. "I'm still the Cindy you know and I'm not going to bite."
"I'm not positive if that's true." Despite saying this, he did walk over, but he did so with extreme caution, ready for anything that may happen. "What happened to you? Why do you look like this?"
"Hold your questions for a moment." She scanned the room for Kevin or any of the other followers of Bruno's. "Okay." She smiled at him. "Now you may ask me anything you want," He opened his mouth to speak but she put out her hand. "but please, one at a time."
"Alright." He thought a moment before starting his interrogation with his first inquiry. "Why do you have this... Power?" He didn't know if that was the right name for it, but nothing seemed real so he just called it whatever he felt like.
"Well." She nodded as she tried to find the right way to explain it. "I believe that it's something you have to be born with, you can't obtain it, but it also takes a bit to get it. You know, like your height, you grow into it. You following along?"
"Yeah." He seemed to get what she was saying, well at least that part. "Next, Why do you change your hair and eyes?" He pointed at her straight hair. "What's the point of changing?"
"Well..." She twirled her hair around her finger. "I think it's one of those superhero, keep your identity a secret." She shrugged. "I don't actually know all the details."
"O...kay..." He stared at her. "What are your powers?" He crossed his arms nervously, tucking his body into itself. . "Besides the changing your look with the movement of your arm."
"Oh, that's easy." She lifted her hands and breathed in, it only took a moment for the images to appear. "You come here every day. Yesterday you came here and..." She stopped and sighed. "You were in the most pain you have ever been in? You couldn't breathe at one point, it hurt so much you thought you were going to die but couldn't speak to get help, neither did you want it."
"What..." He stared at her even more unsettled than he was previously. "Why... How... No..." He shook his head at her. "That's impossible. You must have been here yesterday, you must have done whatever you did to get here today."
"Listen to me." She stepped closer to him causing him to take a few steps back. "Don't be afraid of me." She put out her hands. "I'm still me no matter what I look like."
"I don't g-" His expression changed from confusion to pain and he grabbed his right arm once again.
"Don't fight it!" She ran over to him and grabbed his arm and lifted it into the air. "Just do exactly like I did before. Follow my lead." She placed her hand on his left one and locked her eyes with his. "Let go of your arm and clench your right hand into a fist. I know you can," She smirked. "You fight, so just like you're going to punch someone." He didn't believe what she had said about powers, but nevertheless, he did as she said. "Now drop it with as much force as you can."
"Okay." She let go and he practically threw his hand to the ground. A funny sensation he had never felt, crept across his whole body in a flash. "What did that do?" He questioned as she grinned at him.
"Look at yourself." She pointed at him. "You have transformed too." She jumped with a thought. "I know." She rushed to where she had left her bag and dug through it with lightning speed. Finally finding what she was searching for, she went back to Bruno. "Here." She held out her mini mirror for him the sun shone on it and reflected into his eyes. "Take a look."
Slowly, he took the mirror and lifted it, just to stare blankly at the image that he saw. "Is this me?" He muttered still not fully understanding the situation. "Really?" She nodded and he scanned his new appearance. He had hair a shade of blue that was only a tad bit lighter than navy and eyes the color of dark grey with streaks of yellow here and there encircling the pupil.
"I wonder what your power will be." She grabbed the mirror as he let go and went to put it back in her bag. Just then the school bell went off and she stood up straight. "We have to get back to class."
"Like this?" He asked pointing at his hair. "No way." He waved his hands at her. "They would only kick us out thinking we're trespassing." He sat down on the floor. "We'll just have to wait till we go back to normal."
"I can't miss class." She argued and walked over to him with her backpack on her shoulder. "Besides I don't even know if we'll just turn back. You have to undo the transformation." She placed her arm down and clenched her fist, then shot it into the air. In one second she was back to her regular self. "Now you." She put out her hand and helped him back up.
"Okay..." He placed his hand down just as she did and repeated her movements. "Well?" He asked as she smiled at him. "Am I back to the ordinary me?" She nodded happily then turned to the door, but as they reached it, she jerked around to him with a worried expression.
"What is it?" He question, worry written in his face.
"What would you do if your family had lied to you about everything?" She spoke with a serious tone and, though it wasn't what he had expected, he listened to her carefully. "I mean... Let me be clearer. If you were told that your family had been lying to you all your life. What would you do?"
He had to think but a moment before he knew what to say. "I would talk to my family about it. You can't believe everything someone says. Trust is something earned, not given." As the boss spoke those words Cindy's eyes widened and she nodded. "Why?"
