Cindy and her aunt left shortly after Bruno fell asleep. With the main reason to come out like a light, staying seemed pointless. It wasn't long before he was up and back at the school and Cindy acted as usual during first class.
"Thanks." Bruno shyly uttered these words on the roof, that seemed to be the regular meeting place for those two.
"For what?" Cindy laughed sitting on the floor next to him as he leaned on the gate. "I gave you water. Nothing worth thanking me for, you servants could have done it too."
"No not for that." Bruno sighed. "You..." He turned his head away. "No need to think about it, I only want you to take my thanks."
"Okay." She shrugged, not feeling a need to fight over such a little thing. "So how are you? Better?"
"Obviously." He nudged her with his foot. "I wouldn't be here if I wasn't."
"That's true." She started to stand when someone's words were heard through the air.
"You can't!" Kevin's loud voice sounded. "The boss doesn't like people to enter without his permission!"
"No one is supposed to be here." The other voice retorted. "You should hurry to class and read some of your notes as I take care of this."
"Who are you to tell me what to do?" Kevin demanded as the two rushed to hide behind the entryway.
"I'm the new math teacher." Was the older man's reply. "Now hurry." The door opened all the way, Cindy and Bruno crouched down secretly, hiding behind the wall.
At that precise moment, a sensation ran though Bruno's arm and he grabbed it and stared at Cindy who was preoccupied with the new comer to the roof. He didn't waste time to change into his powered up state.
"Where are they?" Bruno turned to Cindy as the voice continued. "I could have sworn that she would be here." The tone he heard wasn't like the one that spoke only a moment ago.
"Doesn't he sound different?" Bruno asked Cindy as she tried to peek around the corner.
"What are you talking about." She asked without turning to him. "I can't hear anything. He hasn't said anything since he came in."
Shocked by her words Bruno didn't reply to her.
"I need to get that girl." The man resumed his speech that only Bruno and the man himself could hear. "I can't fail again. The master will have my head if I don't do this job correctly."
Bruno undid his transformation and stood up as the man started to round the corner. Bruno grabbed Cindy's arm and pulled her the other way. As the man stood where they were only a minute ago, they made their way down the stairs and to the classroom.
"Did you get caught?" Kevin asked in a whisper. "Do you have detention?"
"No." Cindy put up the sign for victory and Kevin grinned. "We have made the clear!" She was rejoicing over the escape as Bruno sat silently.
He couldn't believe that he was the only one who heard the man's words. Then it hit him. Was if it was his power? Could he hear people's inner thoughts? If that was it, it was going to be hard to get out of helping the police if Cindy found out. He would have to keep it a secret.
