Bruno was going in circles as he tried to find his way out of the maze. He had lost all contact with the other members of the rescue team and didn't even know where he was anymore.
"We won't make it out alive like this." Bruno said trying to hoist Cindy further up. "We need an opening we can go through." He scanned the area but couldn't see anything in the dark.
"Maybe we can help." A boy's voice sounded and Bruno turned to the newcomer, only slightly making out the figure standing across the room. "We are good with escaping."
Bruno stood still as the figure walked closer and into the light revealing a boy about their age along with a female, who stood near him.
"Who are you?" Bruno narrowed his stare at the two strangers. "Why should I trust anyone who 'just so happens' to be in the bad guy's lair."
"Do you want to escape or not?" The male spoke harshly, not wanting to waste any time. "Which is it?"
Bruno looked back at the unconscious Cindy and nodded slowly. "Let's get out of here." He fixed his hold on her and walked with the other two as they lead the way out. Hallway after hallway, then staircases with henchman around every turn.
"Are we almost out?" Bruno asked huffing as they waited for a clearing to run. He wasn't out of shape, but to go from carrying around himself to him plus one.
"It's only around this corner." The girl mumbled with a serious expression. "Not much further."
"What?" The boy snickered. "Can't even carry a girl around? You that pathetic?" Bruno glared at him as he took in a deep breath. They may have been helping but something told him that they weren't all they appeared to be.
"I can take care of it." Bruno huffed with a bit of annoyance in his tone. "You only have to worry about clearing the way for me."
The boy didn't respond, but Bruno heard a stifled chuckle come from him. What were these two thinking?
"Go!" The girl grabbed her companions arm and pulled him into a run to a door at the end of the hallway with Bruno following closely behind.
Bruno reached the door right after the boy had gone through. On the other side was open air and trees. They were finally out.
"But what about everyone else!" He turned back to the door. "I have to get them."
"Get us?" Bruno turned to see Kevin standing in front of the crew, practically unharmed except some cuts he assumed was from the knife the one man held. "We got out first dude. I was thinking about getting you!"
"How...?" Bruno stood shocked as a older man walked over and reached for Cindy, causing alarm for Bruno. "Who are you?"
"Relax." He jerked to Clara who stood near by with a expression of relief. "They're with me. Some of my friends."
"From the...." Bruno paused a moment. "the agency?"
Clara was taken back at his words. How did he? She glimpsed her knocked out ward and understood. "She told you that much?"
"I have heard most if not everything that's happened." He spoke softly letting the man lift Cindy off him. "She seemed to make me a person to complain to."
Clara smiled a gentle smile staring at him. "Thanks for listen to our family problems and-"
"I won't tell anyone." He talked without turning his eyes away from Cindy. "I haven't so far, why start now? You have nothing to worry about."
"Hey, hey!" Kevin yelled for attention. "I helped rescue her! I want some praise too!" He pouted as he crossed his arms.
"Yeah." Bruno strolled over to him and patted his head. "Good job." He grinned then something hit him and he turned to the two who had helped him out. The girl was talking to one of the older men in black while the boy stood right next to her.
Bruno walked over as they finished their conversation. "Who are you then?"
"We're agents." The girl whispered trying not to be over heard. "We were taken in with many others. We are called Children of the agency."
He eyed the boy suspiciously. "I see." He couldn't shake the feeling that something was off about them, but they had pretty much just saved Cindy's and his lives, so he had to say something. "Thank you."
"No problem." The boy placed his hand on Bruno's shoulder. "But next time, why don't you leave saving people for the pros?" He grinned mockingly, Bruno's anger growing inside him. "You should stick to getting better with your school. Let us take care of the princess."
Bruno brushed his hand off and turned around. "I will entrust the rest to you, then." With that Bruno left them to their devices. An eerie feeling still remaining with him. What was it about that boy?Cindy was hospitalized after she was rescued. It seemed that whatever drug they used to kidnap her had an effect on her brain and caused her pain whenever she was awake. The hospital that they put her in was in the agency making it hard to visit, but that didn't stop Bruno from going.
He visited several times, each one having to go through the same drills. Papers to sign again and again. Then there's the metal detector and that's only a few of the things, however he did go. He went a lot.
"Cindy..." He began, standing there alone with her unconscious on the bed. "Don't you think it's time to wake up?"After that visit he wasn't allowed to se her for a few days, then five days later he arrived at school to find Cindy sitting at her desk. His eyes widened at the sight.
"What?" He stared at her in disbelief. "Why are you out of the hospital?"
"Well!" She crossed her arms. "What a way to welcome back your classmate? I come back from almost dying and the first thing I get is Why I'm out? Isn't it obvious? I got better."
"No." He backed up and started again. "Cindy, you're out of the hospital! When did you get out?"
"About six days ago at night." She spoke as she raised her pointer finger and her middle finger to her eye brows. "Now I'm completely healthy and ready for service."
"Six days ago?" He repeated her answer with confusion. "Six day ago at night?"
"Right after visiting hours were over." She smiled sweetly. "Or at least that's what the doctors say."
Bruno couldn't believe what he was hearing. She woke up right after he left? Right after he told her it was time for her to do so?
"So what was going on while I was gone?" She inquired as the rest of the class walked in and rushed to greet her. "Did you guys go to class correctly?"
"Yes." Kevin rummaged through his bag along with everyone else. "We all went to class, if we didn't we couldn't take notes for you!" Everyone pulled out their note books and thrust them into her hands. "Though, if you ask me." Kevin placed his hand next to his mouth and talked loud enough for everyone to hear. "I would use Bruno's notes. He was taking very intricate ones."
"Hey!" Bruno yelled to hush Kevin.
"Is for horses!" Was his response. "And that's good enough for me!"
Cindy had a smirk on and Bruno turned his head away while digging through his bag. "Here." He placed it on her desk and headed for his. "You don't have to use it."
