Gentle sunlight seeped through the curtains. Trace rubbed his tired eyes as he turned his head to blow on the candle. Opening the curtains, Trace squinted his eyes as sunlight hit his eyes. Taking a moment to let his eyes adjust, he turned his eyes back to his work desk. On it was scattered papers, all with different kind of runes and foreign languages.
"One of them must be the key I need to refine those Demon's Eye..."
Trace had accidentally pulled another all-nighter, but he himself was fine with it. Opening one of the drawer of his work desk, he took out a small bottle, and took out one of the dirt colored pills inside. Throwing it into his mouth, he finally felt his strength returning. His mind regained its focus, and Trace was ready to pick up the Demon's Eye from the Alchemist Guild.
"Alright..."
Packing up all the necessary things he need, he stepped out of his room, and went to the Alchemist Guild. The road was bustling with activity, bringing a smile onto Trace's mouth.
"Master Trace!"
A small girl ran towards him, a big smile plastered across her face. The girl jumped into Trace's welcoming arm, sending warmth across his heart.
"Where are you going? Can I come too?"
The girl giddily asked questions. Before Trace could answer, a woman in her thirties appeared from a nearby store, looking around with a worried expression.
"Vina, where are you?"
The girl turned to the woman's voice.
"I'm here mommy!"
The woman turned to her voice, and a wave of relief washed over her expression. The woman hastily approached, and lowered her head to Trace.
"Thank you for going along with my daughter's whim, master Trace. I hope she didn't bother you too much?"
Trace laughed as he put the girl down. Rubbing her little head, Trace fixed the strap of the bag he slung over his shoulder.
"No, she was not bothering me. It reliefs me to see her healthy and happy again."
The woman smiled as she lowered her head once again.
"If it was not for your help, I wouldn't know what will happen to her. I will serve you loyally, to repay everything you've done for me and my daughter."
Trace smiled and turned to the girl again. He ruffled the girl's hair, widening her smile.
"Be good and help your mother, alright?"
The girl nodded and took her mother's hand, dragging her back to the store she came out from. The woman and her daughter was someone Trace had employed to take care of one of his many stores. At first, a lot of people were hesitant to work for him, for he is from a small noble family, but as his reputation grew, the amount of people lining up to work for him increased by the day. If there was an excess number of applicants, he would direct them to his family's business.
"Trace, where are you headed?"
Turning his head, he found Olivia, accompanied by a maid. The maid politely bowed toward Trace, and Trace returned her gesture with a nod.
"The Alchemist Guild. I need to help them refine the Demon's Eye."
Olivia sighed as she tilted her head slightly.
"Do you not have any other name besides that one? It is... unnerving."
Trace rubbed his chin for a moment before nodding.
