"Emerson Lydia, get out of that bed. I do not want to be late today." Remus called from downstairs. Why does he care if we're not late today? We're always late, and I mean always. I quickly put on a distressed pair of black jeans, and my favorite red t-shirt, lastly I grabbed my dad's old leather jacket and walked out with my trunk.

"Remus, we're always late. What's the big deal this time? Ooh are you finally going on a date?" He rolled his eyes and started to put my bags in the trunk of the car.

"No, it seems you forgot. Professor Dumbledore has hired me as the new Defense Against The Dark Arts teacher since Lockhart has been....relieved." Shit, I forgot about that. Why did it have to be me, Don't get me wrong, I love Uncle Remus and I would love to have him as a teacher. But not when dad is free....

In all honesty, nobody has ever told me about my dad. Uncle Remus forbid them, even Dumbledore. He made it very well known that he would be the one to tell me about my parents when he thought the time was right, but it never seems to be the right time. All I know is that my mother killed herself after my dad was taken away, I never knew her name.

I hadn't realized I zoned out until Remus was snapping his fingers in front of my face.

"Em, wake up dear. We have to go. Here, eat some chocolate while I get our things settled." I nodded and grabbed the sweet from him and sat in the passenger side of the car. I swear this man has a never ending supply of chocolate and tea. Soon enough Remus finished grabbing all of his things and settling them along with mine, I think he might have more bags than I do, which is saying a lot.

The car ride was pretty quick as Remus did everything he could to try and keep us from being late, but we already knew we would be. Once we got to the station, I ran to go find one of my few friends. I knew that Quinn would already have found the twins and started the mischief, Luna was probably waiting with one of the few people that didn't actually like me, and Harry and his group of friends aren't particularly happy with me at the moment due to my last and final friend. Draco Malfoy.

Draco was not one of the most... friendly people to the outside world. But he could really be a sweetheart, despite what Harry and Quinn think. I know they're just concerned for me, which I expect. Quinn has always been there to look out for me, Cedric too. They keep me in check and make sure I'm okay, they're  family.  Harry just blatantly doesn't like Draco, but for a decent reason at least.

"Black! I thought you'd never show." Speak of the devil, there's Draco.

"Sorry Draco, Uncle Remus had to make sure he had everything." I rubbed my arm in embarrassment, I'd never been this late before. I only have 5 minutes before the train started.

"Whatever. I'll see you at the table. If you don't have someone to sit with on the train, find me."

Why was he being so nice to me? He was always fairly nice and didn't make fun of me, but he never offered to have me sit with him and his friends, or goons as Quinn calls them.

"That's alright, Draco. I think I'll sit with my uncle. He worries about me." He nodded and waved goodbye as I finished loading my bags onto the compartment.

The horn blared signaling that it was last call to load. Quickly I found my uncle sitting in a compartment alone, seemingly sleeping. I decided not to disturb him and pulled out one of my favorite Muggle books. Number the Stars. It's about this war that happened in the Muggle world in the 1940's, a girl named Annemarie and her family have to hide her best friend Ellen from people called Nazi's. I don't fully understand it, but I've read it enough times I can remember the dialogue.

About halfway through my reading, the compartment door opened.  Harry, Hermione, and Ron all stepped in.

"Hi Em, I hope you don't mind us sitting in with you. Every other compartment is full." Hermione said nicely with a small smile on her face.
