"Quinn get up, I will not be late today!" my dad stood in my doorway with a stern look on his face.
"We're never late Dad, and all I have to do is like, get ready." I groggily brushed my bangs out of my eyes, the remnants of my latest reoccurring nightmare playing out in my head.
"Just be ready by 9:30, okay? On the dot." That seemed to be my dad's favorite string of words, on the dot, as if we could ever be late anyway. Nonetheless, I pulled on my favorite pair of 'mom jeans' and a Grateful Dead T-shirt.
"Quinnie? Are you okay? Do you want a waffle?" My older brother, Cedric, held up a waffle as he walked into my room. I smiled slightly, he'd been way too overprotective after I was petrified last year. Honestly no one should be surprised that crazy things start happening right when Harry comes to Hogwarts.
"Ced, I'm fine, honestly I'm not going to turn to dust or anything!" I grab the waffle and turn around to pick up my trunk, "but you can carry this downstairs for me!" My brother levitated the trunk and smiled at me before walking back into the hallway and down the stairs. My alarm clock blared in my ears, telling me that it was 9:20, I quickly ran a comb through my hair, brushed my teeth, and called for my brown owl, Button, to fly into his cage. Soon enough, we were running through the brick wall that separated us from the Hogwarts Express.
"Are you sure you don't want me to sit with you?"
"Cedric I've done this three times before, I'll be fine! Go sit with your friends, I'm sure Harry and Ron are here anyway." I laughed, knowing that they definitely weren't, and neither was Em, why would they be here on time anyway? Cedric hugged my father, waved at me, and hopped onto the train. I did the same and looked for an empty carriage, which I found, and after I had begun to read my book, was kicked out of by a group of Slytherin girls. Once again, I was on the search for an empty carriage, or my friends, whichever came first.
I had just caught sight of some familiar round glasses when I was pulled into someone's arms with a hand over my mouth.
"Shh Quinnie, it's prank time." a familiar ginger appeared in my vision before I had the living daylights squeezed out of me. "So, we're thinking, stink bombs, we've been working on a smaller, more discrete, version of the traditional stink bomb, and we think it's time we put it to the test." Fred and George Weasley, two of my all-time best friends, and my favorite pranksters.
"Sounds sick!"
"That's my favorite Hufflepuff!" They each pulled out a few small matchbox-looking stink bombs as George continued. "Now all we have to do is do a little tinkering, then, I figure we could slip a few into their carriage when some Slytherins go for the sweets on the trolley. We can set them off with our wands while we pretend to be buying sweets." Fred and George grinned at me, and I smiled back.
"Now you know, if we set the bombs off, it would be very obvious, but if a sweet, innocent, adorable Hufflepuff such as yourself were to do it...." Fred slung his arm over my shoulders.
"No one would suspect a thing!" I giggled at the thought of stinky Slytherins trying to figure out who pranked them. "Okay, so now we just wait until the trolley comes around?"
"Yes ma'am!" George sat down as Fred put my belongings in the luggage rack . We were just about to play a game of Exploding Snap when suddenly the lights flickered out and it became extremely cold. I leaned into Fred to try to battle the cold, but as soon as I did, a bony, creepy figure in a black cloak slid open the doors. Fred pulled me away from the door and the three of us squished against the wall.
A woman with bright red hair and a man with messy black hair spinning around on a stone path as leaves fall around them.
The same woman falls in a flash of green light, a baby behind her looking curiously at the man in the doorway.
A horse-faced woman and a walrus-looking man sneering at a green eyed baby.
"Quinn?! Quinn are you okay?"
Professor Snape and Dumbledore looking at a silvery doe.
Dumbledore falling from a tower.
An older Harry walks into the Forbidden Forest, silvery figures around him.
An older Neville held a sword and looked menacingly down at a snake.
Families gathering in the Great Hall around seemingly dead bodies.
"Quinn wake up! Are you okay?" Fred's worried face appeared in my vision as I opened my eyes.
"I- yeah. What happened?"
"That was a dementor, I reckon they're searching the train for Sirius Black." That name sounded really familiar, I can't put my finger on it.
"Did you guys pass out too?"
"No, but I got a hopeless feeling, like I'd never be happy. George went to see what was happening. That thing was bloody scary, are you sure you're okay?"
"Yeah I guess, I had this weird dream though, it was like, in flashes... oh no," We both looked out the window and saw my brother frantically walking through the corridor and peering into compartments.
"Quinnie! Thank Merlin you're oka- wait... why are you on the floor?"
"Ced I'm fine, just a little freaked by that dementor,"
"A little? Quinn that thing tried to suck your soul out! I had to cast my patronus, a hyena by the way, I know, super cool." Fred slung his arm back over my shoulder.
"Quinn! Oh Merlin! I should have been there, I'm so sorry!"
"Cedric, really, I'm fine, I had a weird dream, woke up, and now you're here." The train came to a stop and kids piled out of the train and into the station. Cedric held me close to him, as if I'd fall apart from being bumped in the corridor. Fred just put me on his shoulders as we walked out into the chaos of students.
"Quinn! Fred! Do you guys want to come help us prank some Slytherins?" Lee Jordan called from a few yards away, Fred looked at me.
"I'm good, but go have fun, I gotta find Emerson. I'll see you at the sorting." He put me down, hugged me so tightly I couldn't breathe, and ran off. Speak of the devil... there she is.
She ran up to me and gave me a hug, and the hugged Cedric's side. Emerson grabbed my hand and smiled up at him.
"Quinn, Cedric, hey! How are you guys? Sorry to say, but I'm stealing her. "
