Mr Anderson took Farlan and I aside during our English class today and told us that he'd loved our speech so much that when he'd been approached about entering students into a national speaking competition, he'd thought of us imediately and would we be interested in competing at all? He said that it would be a wonderful opportunity and we could win some amazing prizes - first prize was an all expenses paid trip to New York.

Farlan was all for it. I wasn't sure.

I said I'd think about it.

We ate lunch alone today - just him and me. We were quiet but it didn't feel awkward at all - in fact, we almost crossed a line that I didn't realise even existed between us: I'd begun to cry again, wondering if there would ever come a day when thinking about and remembering Becks wouldn't hurt quite so much and he'd reached out a hand across the table. And then he'd just held my hand - that was all. He just held it.

It was strangely nice.
