The door opens to reveal Alfred Pennyworth, looking pristine as ever in his suit and coat. He looks at me and then recognition floods his eyes.
"Y/n? Is that you?"
I swallow a lump in my throat, "Yeah, it is."
Expectantly, I wait for him to slam the door in my face. To tell me to leave and never come back. Instead, he does the opposite.
"Come here," he demands, drawing me close. I stifle a cry of happiness and willingly melt into his warm embrace. My tag wags a mile a minute as I grin.
I thought he'd hate me but I was wrong.
"Alfred, who is it?" A familiar voice calls out as Bruce comes into view. He sees me and runs to us, joining our hug. My tail wags impossibly faster at his presence.
"Y/n, I didn't think you'd ever come back," he says as I let go of Alfred in order to hug Bruce. He buries his head in my neck, crying.
Tears flow freely from my eyes as I hug my little brother. I laugh and push him back so I can get a better look at him, "Wow, you've grown since I've been gone."
He sniffles and nods, "You've changed too."
"I know," I reply. "So, can I come in or what?"
Alfred chuckles, wiping away a stray teardrop, "Of course."
He leads me into the Manor. Nothing has changed, really. It's still as wondrous as ever, fancy as the last time I laid eyes on it. This is home, I'm finally home.
"You have a lot of explaining to do, young lady," Alfred says as we sit on the couch.
I sigh, "I know, Alf. But, c'mon, I just got back."
"Yes, back from where, exactly?"
My face burns. I know they think I ran away, but that isn't at all what happened. They may not believe what happened to me, but I have proof.
Swallowing nervously, I answer, "I don't know exactly where I was. All I know is that I was kidnapped, I didn't run away. I managed to escape after two long, long years, and now here I am. And I'm so happy to be back."
"Kidnapped?" Alfred echoes, shocked.
"Yeah, and th-they did things. Things I can't explain, but look. This speaks for itself," I stand up and wag my tail, showing it to them.
Alfred looks at if in confusion and possibly horror. Bruce observes it with an equally stunned expression.
"And," I swivel my wolf ears, drawing their attention to them. "See, I've changed more than you know."
Pennyworth can't even form words, he just mumbles incoherently. Bruce finally catches his breath and stands up. He reaches out and strokes my fluffy tail in awe.
"Wow, cool," he breathes out.
"You really think so?"
"Yes! It's awesome," he replies, "Can I touch your ears?"
I chuckle, "Sure, knock yourself out." I kneel down so that he can pet the furry appendages. It actually feels really nice, making my foot twitch.
Alfred seemingly gets over his shock, "Alright, that's quite enough of that, Master Bruce. Let's give Y/n some space. . . You can have your room back, if you're staying?"
"If it's not too much trouble, I'd like to stay for a while. Until I get back on my feet?"
"Certainly, Master Y/n."
I put my hands up, "Woah, no way. You aren't calling me that. Ever. Got it?"
"Of course," he replies with a bit of a smirk before leading me to my old room.
He motions to the wardrobe, "Your old clothes are still here. They never could get rid of them, they always thought you'd come back."
"Were you there when. . .?"
"No, I wasn't."
I nod, "Poor Bruce."
"He's a trooper, that's for sure."
"Yeah, I always knew Bruce was a tough one."
Alfred clears his throat, "Well, I'll leave you to it."
"Bye, Alf."
"You missed dinner, unfortunately."
"That's alright, I'm not hungry anyways."
"Okay. Goodnight, Miss Y/n."
"No 'miss' either, understand?" I call after him, but he already shut the door.
It's good to be home.
