My eyes open with a snap.
I'm still in the old Crane house, only now my hands are tied and I have no weapon. Cursing my stupidity, I get my bearings straight.
My back is against the crumbling wall and my hands are tied in front of me. With a groan, I look into the eldest Crane's face.
"Howdy," I greet, keeping my calm.
"I won't hurt you," he assures me, speaking slowly.
I roll my eyes, "Uh-huh. I totally believe you."
"Jonathan doesn't want me to."
Humming thoughtfully, I start to casually scratch at my bonds. With my sharp nails, it shouldn't be too long before I'm free.
While I work, I maintain eye contact, "So, you're not going to dissect me then? 'Cause I've been there and it's not fun."
"I will not. After Jonathan finishes his treatment, we're leaving Gotham."
"Smart move. Better get at it then," I sneer.
He walks into a different room and starts talking to his son. I hear Jonathan whimpering as his father reassures him. Repositioning myself, I move my tail so that I'm not sitting on it.
My ears naturally turn to where the Cranes are in the next room as I finally bring my hands to my face and start to naw on the rope. It doesn't take long to chew through them, especially since my teeth are exceedingly sharp.
Cautiously, I rub my sore wrists.
A sudden knock scares me.
"GCPD!"
"Dad, we have to go!" Jonathan says, presumably trying to drag his father away from the house.
"We have to finish the protocol! It would be dangerous for you otherwise!"
Receding footfalls greet my ears as they run off and then door is knocked down by Gordon. I leap to my feet and follow the Cranes.
I hope Jonathan doesn't get hurt, I think as I dash madly to the backyard.
The first thing I notice is a scarecrow in the grassy field. Cold air sends chills throughout my body as I carefully make my way to the scary figure.
"No, dad, that's too much!"
I pick up the pace, sprinting to the scarecrow. Jonathan lies underneath it, screaming up at the scarecrow. His screams die down as he starts to shake violently.
"What did you do?!" I screech at his father, but he looks unconcerned.
"GCPD! Hands up!" Jim shouts, gun drawn.
Crane doesn't obey, instead opting to shoot at them. I ignore them, looking back at Jonathan. I forgot my phone back at the house, so I can't call for help.
Hands on his shoulders, I try to calm him down, but nothing I do helps him.
"Bullock, call an ambulance!" I yell, turning around to see that they dealt with Jonathan's dad.

I wait in the hospital, looking into the room where Jonathan is strapped to the bed for his own safety.
He's still under the effects of the drug his father gave him, and it's showing no signs of letting up.
Shaking my head, I sigh. He didn't deserve this.
Jim walks up with the doctor.
"His brain activity shows he's in a constant state of intense terror."
"How long till this goes away?"
"That's just the thing, detective. We can't be certain it ever will."
A tear slips down my cheek, he's a good kid, he doesn't deserve this.
"Imagine the thing you fear most. Imagine it's all you see, every waking hour," the doctor states before walking away.
I can't even bring myself to imagine what that would be like.
Jonathan starts to scream again, thrashing on the bed wildly. Not able to take anymore of this, I turn my back and head out.
Jim reaches out his hand and places it on my shoulder. I shrug it off and walk out, filled with anger.
