Turns out, Jerome really appreciated the company. We sat in silence for the most part, although we did talk some. He was the first person that Jim questioned, and I wasn't allowed in the interrogation room while they talked.
I watched from outside and was able to lip-read part of the conversation.
Jerome was saying how much he loved his mother and how he was okay with her lifestyle. I remember Lila, and I know she was far from even a decent mother.
When he's done with the questions, Jim tells Jerome that he can go home now. I smile as he exits and come to stand by him.
"You alright?"
"I'll be fine," he whispers.
I notice a certain gleam in his eye, but I don't say anything about it. I have a feeling that he knows exactly what happened to his mother.
It's not my business though.
"So," I say as we exit the precinct, "Where to?"
"I don't know. . ."
"Hmm, if you don't want to go back to the trailer, then you can stay with me. I'm staying with a friend, but I'm pretty sure he'd be okay with it."
"No, it's fine. Do you mind staying with me though?"
I smile gently, "I don't mind at all."

We get back to the trailer and sit down.
"Jerome, I'm sorry about your mom. It's tough losing a parent."
"I'd rather not talk about it."
"Okay, that's fair. Let's talk about something else."
"What's all happened since I last saw you?"
I shrug, "Not a lot."
"Tell me," he insists.
"Well, my adoptive parents were murdered."
"I'm so sorry," he consoles, placing his hand over my knee.
"It's fine."
"I guess we're both orphans now."
I nod sadly, "Yeah. We should start a club."
This comment makes him smile a bit.
"It's nice to see you smile again."I say, observing his reaction.
Again, I see that gleam in his eyes - mischievous and almost teasing. I ignore it, but I know something's up.
~
A rap on the door interrupts our conversation. A police officer stands at the door, "Jerome, we need you to come to the station so we can ask you some more questions."
He nods and grabs his sweater before walking out. I follow, "Mind if I tag along?"
The cop shakes his head.
~
At the precinct, I wait while the officer puts Jerome into a room. Another officer then places the blind fortune teller into the room beside his.
Curious, I go seek out Jim.
I find him by his desk talking with Lee. I patiently wait for them to finish their discussion, which ends with Jim saying that Lee was right.
After they share a quick kiss, I go up to them. "Jim, anything you want to share with the class?"
"Oh, Y/n, I didn't know you were here."
