Breakfast greets me on the kitchen table. Bacon, eggs, toast, fruit - a feast fit for royalty. Bruce is already awake and eating the delicious meal.
I sit myself down, carefully placing my tail to the side so that it kind of hangs off the seat. I greet my little brother and start to chow down.
The truth is, I haven't eaten since I escaped, so this is a real treat. Scarfing down a few pieces of bacon, I notice Alfred walk in carrying two glasses of orange juice.
He scoffs when he sees how I'm eating.
"Mind your manners, please."
I swallow and laugh, "Manners? What are those?"
Bruce chuckles, "You always did bicker a lot."
"Hey, you don't know what you're talking about, we get along great," I smirk and toss a piece of toast at him.
Laughing, he returns the favour, hitting me in the face with a piece of bacon. I pick it off the table and chomp noisily on it, "Mm, thank you!"
Alfred stops us, "Alright, that's quite enough."
We finish eating and then I help Alfred clean up the mess we made. After that, we head into the car to drop Bruce off at school.
The school is really fancy and as Bruce leaves I wave to him, "Have fun, Bruce!"
After that, Alfred starts driving away. I look back at my little bro with a smile. He's doing just fine.
"We need to talk."
I frown, "Jeez, Alf. That's never a great sign."
He parks the car, "Give me all the details you remember."
"Well, I was walking somewhere - honestly, I can't even remember where I was going. Then, a guy in a weird mask grabbed me. I tried to fight him off, I really did, but he drugged me. Next thing I know, I wake up strapped to a table. Two years later, I finally managed to escape. And. . . that's all."
"When did you escape?"
"A few days ago," I answer truthfully. I had escaped, spent a day in hiding, and then I went to the GCPD.
He looks at me and I can tell he's angry with the answer, "A few days?! And you didn't come to me right away?!"
"I had to deal with something first, Alfred."
"What?! What could you have possibly needed to deal with?!"
"Stuff," I try not to yell, although my temper is rising.
"What kind of stuff?!"
"Relax. I went to the GCPD and met up with Harvey and he introduced me to his friend. His friend needed some help, so I volunteered."
"Bullock?"
"Yeah. I don't know if you know Jim Gordon, but I was helping him."
"We've met, he's a good man, that one."
"I'm sorry I didn't come home sooner. I-I was also scared of what you'd think."
"Think of what."
I look at him incredulously, "Of what I've become. I'm a monster, Alfred."
"Don't say that. You've just changed a bit, that's all."
You don't know the half of it. "I thought you'd hate me."
"I could never hate you, Y/n," he says quietly, placing his hand over mine.
I smile warmly at him, enjoying the moment. He clears his throat and removes his hand, causing my smile to falter.
I regain composure, "Speaking of Jim, I'm going to see how he's doing. I'll be back in time for supper."
"Alright, just don't do anything stupid, ya hear?!" He calls after me as I exit the car.
I snort, "Don't worry, Alf. You know me."
As I walk away, he says, "I do, that's why I worry."
