8:14 PM, Wellston Boys Dormitories
"Urgh.." John slowly opened his eyes, just to see a familiar ceiling above him
'Huh? Why am I suddenly here? How did I get here?'
John thought. He found himself waking up in his own room, not knowing what happened beforehand. While looking at his surroundings, he noticed that it was already nighttime by looking at the view outside the windows.
As he tried to get up from his bed, he noticed something blocking his feet. It was Sera that was sleeping. Her head on the bed while her stance was sitting at the floor
S-Sera? Why is she here?
But then he suddenly remembered the last conversation they had today after school. John flinched at the thought, his eyes widen up
S-Sera knows that I'm not powerless now... on top of that she saw me beating those royals... D-Does she think I'm a M-Monster now?
But Sera was still there..beside him. She was still willing to stick with him even though he has been lying to her this entire time John spent with her
Sera... Why do you even still bother with me, even though you know I've been lying to you this whole time?
Suddenly, Sera woke up as well. Probably from the small movements that John caused
"Urgh... John? You're awake!" Said Sera, her voice was still weak, probably still half asleep
"H-Hey Sera? How did I get here? And what happened to me?"
"You collapsed to the ground in the afternoon and I called Doc using your phone because mine broke from that whole kidnaping incident. Anyways, Doc said that it isn't anything serious and then helped me get you to your room" Sera explained. She was surprisingly still calm with her voice
"O-oh... Is that so? Haha Sorry to burden you like that"
"So John... Why are you so afraid to tell me the truth to the point you collapsed? Can't I not be trusted? And why did you do the things you did to the royals? Explain"
Sera starred deeply into John's eyes, demanding an answer. There was no way that he can magically change the subject now, now that Sera knows about his power. He can see the confusion in Sera's face... As much as John hates it, She deserves to know the truth
"When I was young I always got picked on... always got bullied, just because I was a low-tier. The world felt so unfair to me... I constantly wish for me to be able to fight back to give them a taste of their own medicine...I'm sure you know this feeling by now Sera" John said emotionlessly
"What do you mean you're a low tier? you're clearly a high-tier..." I said confused
It was to be expected that Sera would be confused. John took a deep breath and tries to explain it all from the beginning, how his powers suddenly fluctuate greatly. He became the same people that he used to hate so much. Arrogant, Merciless... and most importantly
A monster... one that keeps abusing their powers for nothing good for satisfaction. Nothing could get through to John anymore, not even his own friends... and even then, John still ended up beating them. It was all too much. So much so, that even the authorities has to step in
'His powers suddenly grew? And the sense of satisfaction of defeating someone you couldn't... Kind of like what Zeke did to me'
Sera thought. She felt like she understood it somehow. It's because she knows that feeling now. She would do anything to get her ability back. The world became so unfair to her... all she could do is get beaten or run away. Her opinions doesn't even matter anymore.
"But John, you still haven't explained to me why you hid your ability... Wouldn't it just be better if you didn't in the first place?" I asked
"That time when the authorities stepped in, they succeeded in defeating me. After that, they put me in some sort of a readjustment class. There, they taught me about how the world works... About how everyone has a certain role to fulfill. They also taught me that abilities and powers shouldn't be mindlessly thrown around. They were really good at making me regret doing all those things, and I became shameful of my ability"
'Readjustment classes? Teaching how the world works? But I guess I understand. Low-tiers and High-tiers have a different understanding of the world after all'
"But John... You still could've started a fresh new life here at Wellston without hiding your ability at all... don't you think?"
"What do you mean? I was happy pretending as a cripple... Spending time with you, knowing that you don't judge me by my powers. You know, my wish before coming here was that I could get along with someone, and I'm glad that it's you" John said with his genuine smile. She didn't feel any lies coming out from his mouth
"But if you're happy... what was the reason you decided to use your abilities now and defeat all the royals this morning?"
"It's because... those high-tiers are useless Sera... They know that lower-tiers are getting abused everyday and they don't even do anything to stop it. All they do is boast about their powers" John said irritably
Today was really a special experience for Seraphina. She felt like she was getting to know him for the first time again
"Sera... Do you remember the day you got back from your suspension? I was crushed because Arlo betrayed me that day. I was just trying to be friends with him but he took me to the turf war field and ambushed me... After that, I've had enough and snapped. That's why Arlo helped me while you were unconscious at my house, and helped me search for you when you were kidnapped. I ordered him." John said full of anger
I've never seen this look of him... His face is so full of hatred and anger
"Maybe you're right John... But I don't think Remi deserves this. Before you came here to Wellston, I used to hang out with Remi, but not as much as with you though... but I've seen how she acts around lower-tiers. She's kind and treats everyone with respect. John... I think you should go and apologize to her"
