"Jonah…" I said cautiously, "Did you just stop time?"
"Uh…no?" I didn't even bother checking his truth ring to tell he was lying.
"You are so going to get it!" I threatened him. "Once I tell Garret about this, you and your little sorcerer family will all get expelled!"
"Please don't Noelle," he pleaded, saying my real name, "I didn't mean to. I know I'm not supposed to use magic in school, but come on, turning you orange really wasn't harmful. But then the janitor came and…and…well…I panicked."
I rolled my eyes, "Why couldn't we have just gone with my plan and hide in a corner or something?"
He shrugged. I sighed.
"Whatever, Jonah. Just, please un-orange me."
"Okay, but I might need a few tries," he laughed.
Seven tries later, I went from orange to purple to polka-dotted green to normal. Finally.
"Yeah, I guess I should study my spells a little more," Jonah admitted, scratching his neck. "So now that you're taken care of, I can unfreeze the time."
"Wait!" I stopped him. "Don't do anything yet. This whole freezing time thing is really cool." I turned around and inspected my book that fell halfway to the ground. Running down the hallway, I laughed at the janitor's mid-step position. From outside the window, I could see all the students frozen in their spot, most of their mouths open as they were about to speak.
"This is insane!" I said. "I can't believe time actually stopped!"
"I know, right? The whole universe as stopped orbiting and it's just you and me, Wolfy."
Just me and Jonah? I shuddered. "On second thought, maybe you should unfreeze the time."
He laughed and then whispered a spell. The same bright, white light erupted from him and flooded the hallway. By the time my eyes readjusted to the normal lighting, time was running again. The janitor finished his step, my book landed with a thud, and the noise of the students outside filled the empty the hallways.
"Hey!" the janitor yelled at us. "What are you two still doing in school?"
"We're leaving!" I called back. I quickly picked up my book from the floor, grabbed my cell phone and backpack and rushed towards the door.
"See you later, Wolfy!" Jonah called after me.
"Yeah, yeah," I muttered.
I opened the door and stepped outside. All the people were chatting and laughing, going on with their normal lives, completely unaware of the fact that time had stopped and Jonah and I were caught in a moment. Literally.
A lot has happened today. Clarence and Ethan had a showdown in the hallway, Janice actually talked to me, and Jonah screwed up and froze time. It's all very mind-boggling.
So, to get my mind off of today's peculiar events, I decided to do some research on mythological creatures. Because it has been made obvious to me that I know nothing about them.
I was sitting at my desk in my room, googling werewolves and vampires and sorcerers and jotting notes in my little book like a little nerd. But who knows? Maybe this stuff will come handy one day.
Werewolves. They are part human, part wolf. They have the ability to morph between the two forms. If a human kisses a werewolf, the human turns into a werewolf. (Okay, I did not know that.) Werepups grow at the rate of normal human beings. Once they reach the age of 25, they stop growing. They live forever. There are 3 things that kill a werewolf: silver bullets, plenilunaemorbus (???), vampire venom….wait, vampire venom?!!
