Chapter 8

Ofa's POV

I'm so excited to see my whole family, feels like I haven't seen them in a long time when yet I only just saw them yesterday or rather last night. As we drive into the church carpark I see a lot of my family and church friends all standing outside the church building which means church hasn't started yet.

We walk towards the church and we are greeted by many people. As I turn I see my mother approaching us then she stops and just stares at me. I just cant help myself and I run over to finally embrace my mother.

As I hug her and take in her scent but something doesn't feel right. She's not hugging me and it seems like her body has just stiffened.

I pull back and look at my mother and she just stares at me. The death stare!

I smile and say to my mother "fefe hake" (how are you)

My mother gives me a fake smile and turns and walks away ... I'm left so dumb founded and clueless of what just happened.

Throughout the service I couldnt help but keep on looking over to my mother who is now totally avoiding me and when I do catch her staring she stares me down and I'm getting even more scared by the minute.

Tasi rubs my thigh "babe are you ok?"

I nod with tears slowly forming in my eyes

"we can go home if you want" Tasi says

I don't say anything but just focus on the minister giving his sermon.

Most of the service was a blur. Church finishes and we head to our car as quickly as we can and we leave before anyone could come over and I am not really in the mood of talking to anyone.

Our drive home to get changed was a silent drive. As soon as we get back to Tasi's family home we get changed and leave again.

Before we leave the driveway Tasi turns in his seat and looks at me.

"Ofa, is everything ok? You have been acting strange since you greeted your mother" Tasi says with a lot of concern.

"babe I am honestly not sure why my mother gave me the cold shoulder. Its killing me that she would act that way knowing that we have to face eachother all day today. I mean ... your family are coming over for the big Sunday feast and I don't want your family to think or be alarmed that anything is happening" I say with a sigh of frustration

"maybe she just had a stressed morning and just wasn't in the mood. Or maybe she had an argument with your father" Tasi reasons with me with half a smile

"nevermind, its ok. I will find out in the end anyways"

We head to my parents house and as we arrive cars are lined up along the curb all the way down the street.

We park up and get out. Mmmmmm the smell of the food is making my mouth so watery. I look at Tasi and he looks more eager than me to go inside.

Me and Tasi meet in front of our car as Tasi pulls me into a hug

"babe its gonna be fine ... you have nothing to worry about. And if you wanna leave at any time we will leave, you just say the word" Tasi says as he kisses me forward

I smile into his chest as I grab his hand in my hand and pull him towards the house.

When we get inside the house looks so lovely. Mum has her finest mats out and she has new curtains up. I notice on the table that she has all her dinner sets that she hardly ever uses out.
