"wakey wakey sleeping beauty, its your big day" says my best friend Misty in a very excited tone.
"No! Go away" I groan into my pillow with frustration. It feels like I only closed my eyes 5 minutes ago.
"c'mon Ofa we need to get you ready so we don't rush around last minute" says my other best friend Fili. No fricken way these two said they gonna be here early and they are.
I slowly lift my head up off the pillow to search the time. Its only 5.35am. Damn these two, I swear they are almost bionic. I don't know where they get all the energy to be up so early.
"please go away, just half an hour please and then I promise I'll get up" I whine pulling my blanket bank over my head to hide from my best friends.
"nope! Get your ass up woman. We have a lot to do and not enough time" Misty says with a lot of seriousness in her voice.
Misty knows I am not a morning person, but I know if I don't get up soon she will probably lift me out of this bed and toss me onto the hard floor.
I sit up in my bed and rub my sleepy eyes.
When I open my eyes I see a 5"5 Misty standing on the left side of my bed with her hand on her hip wearing her one arm purple island knee length dress with island patterns crossing the bottom half of her dress, her black straight hair has been pinned to one side making her sei stand out from behind her ear. She looks so stunning when she really makes an attempt. Then I notice a 6"2 Fili on the Right side of my bed with her bright red lipstick wearing a strapless Red floor length dress, most probably to cover her masculine legs and her blonde streaked hair has been curled and let down to cover her broad shoulders and her tattooed covered back. Sometimes I forget Fili, which is short for Filipo was not born a female. Fakaleiti or not I love her and would never change a thing about her.
"If my parents didn't spend a fortune for today I wouldn't be getting up at this time" I groan and turn away from Misty's glare.
I honestly don't know what I would have done without these two. We have been friends since year 9 in the most popular secondary high school in South Auckland - Manurewa High School. And here they are on my wedding day, even with all the pre-wedding dramas, Fili almost bashing girls that gossiped about me and the clash of our cultures they have still stuck by me. I don't know what I did to deserve such loyal people in my life.
I hear many voices coming from the living room so I quickly run to the bathroom before anyone sees me.
I quickly run back to bedroom and As soon I see my bed I flop back onto my bed closing my eyes to try and get a bit more sleep while Misty isn't paying any attention. Sometimes I wish I was not Tongan. I thought getting married to a Samoan guy I would not have to deal with a too much of the Tongan traditions but who am I kidding? I am who I am and nothing will or could change that. Don't get me wrong, I am very proud to be Tongan.
"Are you ready? When you are then sit your muli (samoan for bum) on this chair so we can start. We need to get your hair done first" Fili says in a high pitched tone and smiling while untangling her curling iron.
Still in my pyjamas I get up and walk to the chair and sit down and close my eyes with hopes that I can get some more sleep.
Bodies moving around me and my hair is getting tugged at. Now I feel a soft tissue across my forehead. Damn, makeup too at 6.30am in the morning?
After a long time battling with Misty about the amount of makeup she finally gave in. I like simple best. Besides I know Tasi will love me anyways no matter how I looked.
Today is the day, I am finally going to be Mrs Sami. I feel so many butterflies in my stomach as I think of the idea of changing my name to Ofa Sami. I remember Tasi's proposal like it was just yesterday. Most girls get a sparkling humongous diamond ring, but not this Tongan girl. My darling Tasi is more talented than that. I smirk at the thoughts going through my mind until I'm stripped from my thoughts when I feel my ear burning.
