Chapter 9 - Paradise
Tasi POV
Waking up feeling so happy I turn over to find that Ofa is not in bed. I quickly get up and out of bed and as I am trying to get myself sorted for a shower Ofa comes rushing through the doors with her blood shot eyes that look like they're about to explode. As she reaches the bed she drops down on the floor and just burst into tears. I rush over to comfort her.
"babe what happened? Why are you crying?" I ask as her crying becomes louder
"babe please stop crying, tell me what happen" I ask once more with a lot of concern
"its ... its gone" she yells and pushes me off then punches the bed with a lot of frustration.
"whats gone babe? You need to tell cos you're not making any sense right now"
"The sheet ... the sheet is gone" Ofa cries out again
"what sheet? And where has it gone" I ask ... it breaks my heart to see her like this but I am gonna get to the bottom of this.
"the white sheet I left here by the bedside table. My mother asked me to bring it over today and its gone and I cant find it anywhere" Ofa says. She wipes her tears and sits down on the floor leaning on our bed.
"what do you mean you cant find it? It was here when we left yesterday. Did you check the laundry hamper in that corner" I ask and point towards the basket in the corner of our room.
"Yes Tasi, I have checked everywhere!" Ofa yells at me in frustration
"babe please its too early for yelling in the morning" I sit down facing her on the floor and I pull her towards me in between my legs. Ofa pulls her knees up to her face and just cries into her legs. I hug her and try my best to console her.
"babe, we will find it. It has to be somewhere here in the ro" I'm cut off by Ofa "I have looked already, what makes you think you will find it if I didn't find it?" she says while throwing invisible daggers with her eyes.
"ok, I will have a look and then if we cant find it in here then I will ask my mum if she has seen it" I say to Ofa and she just stays silent.
For the rest of the morning I thoroughly go through our room looking for the white sheet and Ofa was right, it was nowhere to be found. I go in search of my mother to find that no one is in the house except us two. So I head back to our room to grab my stuff like I was going to before Ofa had come into the room. I head to the shower and take a shower.
When I get out of the shower Ofa is sitting on the edge of our bed with puffy red eye. She quickly stands and grabs her towel and rushes out the door.
I quickly get dressed and check my phone to wait for Ofa to get out of the shower. I ring my mum and she says she's just around the corner.
I hear my parents car pull up outside so I head out into the kitchen to turn on the kettle and wait for my parents to come in.
My parents walk into the kitchen and are surprised to see me standing there.
"son are you ok?" my father asks
"yeah I'm ok, but Ofa isn't"
Both my parents stop and look at me.
"you guys remember how I told you guys that the Tongan tradition is to have the white sheet on our wedding night and then it will be given to Luisa?" both my parents nod to indicate they are following what I am saying
"Ofa has been crying all morning and we have been looking all over our room for that white sheet that Ofa had left next to the bedside table and we cant find it"
