Chapter 5
Ofa POV
From where we are standing outside the hall I'm stunned by how it looks. My dad's family spent all lastnight here at the hall. Before we enter the hall I notice right down the back of the hall where it looks like it's the kitchen, I see two trucks parked outside. And when I take a closer look at the print infront of the truck it says "Jimmy's Roast". Jimmy's Roast is a portable oven truck and my guess is those are the trucks that have the already roasted pigs ready for the big feast. Being Tongan it is crucial to have pig or pork served unless in your religion you food restrictions.
Our bridal party enter the hall through the side door with all our bridesmaids and groomsmen all ahead of us.
I'm not surprised that the reception actually looks more packed then the actual ceremony, an island bad habit, and my mother told me the ceremony can be good and I can look good in my dress but if the food is not good then it isn't a good wedding but if the food is great then it will be the best wedding and people will be singing our praises on how everything was good.
My poor mother didn't wanna back down to my dad's family let alone Tasi's family who argued to have a catering company come in but my mother suggested otherwise to have our families cook and it resulted in Tasi's family on one side of the hall and my family all on the other side of the hall. I wish I could have changed it but its too late now and Tasi's family were not willing compromise.
Music fills the hall as I turn to Tasi who is all smiles again as he leans down to me and plants a kiss on my forehead.
"are you ready babe? I'm sorry about before" Tasi whispers with a half smile. I ignore his words and return a smile then turn to face our guests who are now all staring as we stroll across the varnished floor.
We are seated I take in everything infront of me. Tasi's family had brought in caterers which were lined up down the left side of the hall and when I look over to my side, the Tongan side. My jaw literally drops open. Along the 2 rows of table towards the back of the hall there is a small size 2 pig which is about 10kgs every meter surrounded by Taro, Manioka and banana's. I straight away turn to look at Tasi as he whispers into my ear "your family think they are all that eh?" in a very harsh tone with a fake smile.
I'm surprised by his words and I turn and glare at him. I don't know if I should be mad or just laugh because this is what his family wanted. So I ignore his annoyance and keep smiling. Grace is said by the Minister and everyone makes a move to get their food or dig in to the pork, while server's serve other foods on massive trays for the guests.
As we enjoy our feed and being served by my cousins who I'm sure spent all night cooking for me, we are entertained by Misty and her family band who offered to play for our wedding reception.
While we sit there enjoying the entertainment I feel Tasi's hand on my thigh and he squeezes and rubs my thigh. I look up at him and he sends me a smile while licking his lips. I smile and rest my hand on his hand.
After the items Tasi's Step-mother is called up to say a few words about Tasi. This is gonna be good!
"Talofa everybody, thank you for coming" Tasi's step mother says looking very nervous as she continues.
"Tasi is my 2nd oldest son" she talks like Tasi is her real son. Tasi doesn't look too happy but he is smiling so he doesn't make it obvious.
Tasi's step mother Anna goes on and on about how her son is and has always been a good boy blah blah blah is what I heard. I couldn't take my mind off Tasi's hand which is now getting further and further up my thigh and I'm trying to push his hand down with my hand but he just is not budging.
