For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men...Submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh. For it is commendable if a man bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because he is conscious of God.
-1 Peter 2: 15 and 18
Before I flipped the pages of my Bible, I was praying for some encouraging words that will build up my flailing faith. I just got home at that time from work and I had some attitude issues with my boss.
Everyone at the office were suggesting I should confront the higher management and escalate the rudeness of my supervisor. They were saying I shouldn't let them take away my rights as an employee. That I have a point and I should say something about it. I almost did. With all the peer pressures and my crushed-ego I almost did something that might have made me jobless by now. But God reminded me of His love and mercy. And the verse above.
Sometimes we need to really take a deep breath and think. Think about the consequences and think of who you are. What will it benefit you if you let your anger lead you to something that you'll surely regret afterwards?
Obey the king's command, I say, because you took an oath before God. Do not be in a hurry to leave the king's presence. Do not stand up for a bad cause, for he will do whatever he pleases. Since a king's word is supreme, who can say to him, "What are you doing?" (Ecclesiastes 8)
But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. For it is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.
