A small breeze blew it's way up the mountain, carrying petals along the tree branches and across the ceremony. There were only three people there, Dan, Phil, and the man who would be marrying them. They didn't need music or appaulse, only each other and the view of the early Japan sky. They wanted to see the sunset together, so they stood at the top of the hill at 5 am, no tuxedos, no ties, just Dan's hand in Phil's.
The first time Phil married, it was at a church with people he hardly knew, Chris was his best man, of course. The Millionaire's Club was there to cheer him on, but it wasn't the happiest day of his life like everyone thought it would be, to everyone else it was perfect and traditional, white wedding dress, black tuxes. But it wasn't Phil. He didn't want to get married inside, he wanted the air on his neck and the song of the birds nearby. But this was different, it didn't feel like he was just getting married, it felt like he was being reborn.
Daniel stared at the morning sun, the sky pink, orange and yellow all at the same time. Phil wasn't looking though, he was looking at the way the light reflected off his round eyes and the way his mouth parted to awe at the scene before them. Phil looked at his freckles against the orange of the sky and the way his hand felt against the older man's.
"I love you," Phil whispered, a secret only shared with Dan for then on.
The brunet looked at him and gave the biggest smile Phil had ever seen, every tooth in his mouth pearly white. He shuffled closer to Phil, resting his head on his shoulder and mumbled. "I love us."
Their rings glimmered, Dan loving the feeling of the cool metal on his finger. He loved the feeling of Phil and the way he made him feel. He loved the arch between Phil's forehead and nose, and the way his lips bloomed like roses and the way his heart sounded when Dan rested his head on his chest.
"I love you more than anything," Dan said into the sky, a little louder this time.
And suddenly Dan wished PJ was there, and he wished his mom and Adrian were there, and Ant and maybe even Alison. And suddenly he wasn't Daniel Howell anymore, he was Daniel Lester and everything and anything that belonged to Phil Lester - the love of his life.
Phil took his hand from Dan's, cupping both of his palms around his mouth and shouting into the sky. He shouted like he was releasing all of the words that came together to write about Phil Lester and every dot on his I's and every cross on his T's. He shouted like he was rain slicing through the air or like a bear waking up after hibernation. He shouted to all of the stars and the sun and every hue in the sky that he loved the boy standing next to him.
And when he came back down he had the same crooked smile Dan had, and the brunet shouted into the sky too, and suddenly they were lifted off together, soaring like birds on a Sunday morning.
