Chapter - Thirty - Six - The First Challenge
Bethany's POV...
It seemed that everything went silent when I walked through the door of the office, Salem with his face sporting a couple of bruises sitting on the floor and Chris standing on the side, looking like he was yelling at his Gamma from the way his breathing patterns weren't normal and seemed rapid but had stopped when his eyes zeroed on Raydan walking beside me with a nervous look on his face.
"Well?" I raise an eyebrow as I walk towards the couch that my parents were sitting on, looking a bit bored but still giving me and Raydan a look full of interest, probably wondering where I took the boy and why he was even here in the first place, but I dismissed their questioning gazes and turned to Salem with a small fake smile on my face.
"Glad you got what you deserved," I give him a fake sympathetic smile and turn to Chris with a real one beaming from ear to ear. "And I'm glad that you are making amends."
"Thank you, Bethany.." He murmurs but turns his attention to his little brother squeezing my hand in a death-like grip and looking like he wants to be here but scared of his reaction.
"What are you doing here, squirt?" He asks softly and kneels down while opening his arms up to Raydan, who just stayed beside me and squeezed my hand more which only made Chris furrow his eyebrows and look at me for an explanation, I give him a small smile and took Raydan into my arms, brushing his hair back and patting his arm in a comforting manner.
He was probably trying not to break under the pressure of what I just told him and the look that Chris was giving him wasn't helping at all, making me give Chris a look that told him that I was going to explain later, a subtle nod is all I get back and Chris gets up and clears his throat, turning to Salem with narrowed eyes.
"Chris, can you please come sit?" My mother asks lightly, her tone as soft as honey and making a burst of warmth blast in the center of my chest, calming me down remarkably.
I gave Chris a small smile and took a place next to my mother on the three-person couch, a small encouraging smile appearing on her face when she saw how well I was doing, her eyes lingering a little too long on Raydan before her eyes flickering back to me with recognition in her beautiful electric blue eyes that were almost identical to mine.
Chris was a little hesitant on following my example, which was an expected reaction because the only available for him was the one near my father's side, who was the current King and had a powerful aura that would make any normal wolf tremble in his presence and Chris being an Omega made things worst. But the encouraging smile that I gave him apparently made a difference and made him stop trembling in his step and he walked somewhat gracefully to the armchair that was beside my father.
"Firstly, we'd like to deeply apologies for what you had to endure behind our backs, I wish I could have seen what was happening under my rule and I can't begin to describe how guilty I and your Queen felt when Princess Bethany told us about your situation," My father started in his deep voice, the tone he used making Chris relax completely in his seat and for him to let out a light breath in relief.
"We want to offer you a place in the Royal Wing of the castle, as an apology, not pity," My mother continued.
When I saw Chris open his mouth with that same look I had seen him have when I offered him the place in the castle, I quickly cut him off, "This isn't pity, Chris," I explain firmly, giving him a fierce look, "This is our duties as leaders to provide for you until you get back on your feet, if you refuse to keep it as a permanent place, you can stay for two years, until your nineteenth birthday so you could have saved up enough to actually start a stable home for Raydan, you'll get a sum of cash every month that will cover your necessities for that month so you can properly save up from one of your jobs. You and Raydan are officially in custody of the crown after we finish the papers and until you turn nineteen." My voice was strong, leaving no room for argument and making Chris look at me with a certain look in his eyes that I couldn't properly explain.
