Chapter - Forty - Two - Forgive Yourself...

Bethany's POV...

I gapped silently at Zoe's form, who was still standing at the doorway with her eyes watching me like a hawk, observing my body to check for any injuries in a protective manner, she looked like she wanted to come and check me in stead of my mother.

I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion, lightly pushing my mother to the side so I can make sure that Zoe was actually there, and if so how was she even physically here. I saw her die, I saw how that spell killed her. I saw Justin holding her dead body and crying over it.

I reached the doorwag where she was standing, looking at her like I just saw a ghost, I looked silently at her features, raising my hand to reach out to touch her but hesitating for a few minutes.

I stare at her as she raises her hand too and reaches for mine, my heartbeat increasing to a point where I thought my heart would jump out of my chest in fear and anticipation. I didn't know what I was expecting, but it most definitely wasn't the painful electric shock that burst throng my hand the moment our skin touched causing both of us to hiss and flinch away, taking a step back from each other in shock.

The sudden shock broke me out of my state of daze and made my eyes widen again, finally giving me the ability to use my words instead of staring like an idiot at my Vampire Spirit.

"Zoe?"

Wonderful first words, I had all the words in the English language and that was the first one that I thought to utter, I close my eyes and rub the heels of my palm against my eyes, opening them again to see Zoe still looking at me with her worry-filled eyes. She nodded once, staring at me with the same shock-filled expression.

"But.. You... How?... Um.. Hi?" I stutter, extending my hand for a handshake but pulling it back when I felt the electric current moving through the air around her body, I let my arms drop and cringe inwardly at my stupidity. I really need to work on not getting shocked when something unnatural happens, I had a feeling like this wouldn't be the last time.

My mother's muffled laughter breaks both of us out of our little bubble and we both turn to look at her as she laughs into her hand, amusement clear in her eyes as they sparkle with mirth.

I roll my eyes and turn to look back at Zoe, our eyes meeting as we both silently stare at each other a little more before small giggles start escaping past our lips, slowly turning into blown out laughs while the three of us laugh.

My mother was most likely laughing at how tongue tied I was, she never really saw me stutter around anyone other than males after Brody so she was probably having the relief of her life. And well, me and Zoe were laughing at the incredulously of the situation, I'm sure we both didn't know that seeing each other physically was possible but here we are, able to touch each other like she was still alive.

She was still as young as she was when she died, making me believe that we stay at the ages we died in after we die in the afterlife. It was an assumption and I was sure that it wasn't true, but that was all I can do.

When we calmed down we shared smiles and Zoe walked to my mother, sitting on the floor beside her and patting the spaces beside her, indicating for us to sit.

We sat silently, sharing silent looks as the heaviness of what Zoe must've seen when she was with me in my mind settled in, my mother was clueless of what I had conjured up, what my mind looked like, but Zoe was looking at me like she understood everything I was going through, but I seriously doubted it, I'm sure she didn't have her best friend kidnap her and torture and rape her for a whole month while she was still a little girl, if she did, she would've been just as broken as I was.
