Chapter - Thirty - Eight - A Break

Bethany's POV...

"Sally?! Where are we going?" I giggle loudly as my best friend pulls me through the forest in a blindfold, completely stopping me from being able to see a single thing in sight and rendering me temporarily blind for the time being.

"It's a surprise, Beth, we both know how much you love surprises," I hear her melodic laugh as she pulls harder on my hand that was clutching onto hers like a lifeline.

I was sure you are wondering how I ended up in this situation, well, I was sleeping peacefully with Jack's arms safely around me and serving as a block from all the dangers of the world while he played with my hair when Sally burst into the room and literally dragged me out of bed, basically kicked Jack out of the room, picked out an outfit for me and forced me to wear it.

And now she's pulling me through a forest in a blindfold and refused to tell me what was happening or where we were going.

I huff as another branch slaps me on the face, rubbing the sore spot with a small pout on my face, I really don't know what was happening and although I trusted Sally, I just can't seem to be at ease with not seeing anything around me, it makes me vulnerable and I don't like it.

"Sally, can you please just slow down? My whole face burns from the number of times I've been hit with branches," I call out with an annoyed tone in my voice, hearing a huff and collide with Sally's back as she stops.

"We're here, Wait! Don't remove the blindfold yet!" I frown and cross my arms, straining my ears to hear around me but all I hear is a couple of heartbeats and breathing from far away, ten to twelve feet away from where I was standing.

"Sally.." I trail off while focusing on my hearing, taking a step back when I heard shuffling in front of me, I don't like this, I hate this.

"Dammit, Sally! Who's there?!" I growl preparing to take off the blindfold when it flies off my face, I blink my eyes hurriedly, wanting to clear my vision faster as I got ready to shift and attack whoever was there.

But to my surprise, music starts blasting from somewhere and Sally grins as she raises her arm in the air, "Surprise!"

A group of about sixteen girls stand behind her and smile at me with timid waves, some even having the courage to yell out a small 'surprise' and giggling lightly when they see my confused and dumbfounded face.

"I'm a bit lost.." I murmur with narrowed eyes, trying to figure out what was happening and figure out a reason for this huge group to be in front of me right now.

"Well.." Sally trails off with a wide grin, taking a couple of papers from the girl beside her and walking over to me, "You were a little too busy with everything going on and it was clear that you forgot all about the singing contest and our duets, so I took it upon myself to prepare everything that was needed for the songs that we would be singing." She gives me a side hug while I stare silently at her with wide eyes.

I slap my forehead with a cringe as I remember about the meeting that took place a few weeks ago before everything, I totally forgot about all the necessary preparations for all of those songs, and it slipped my mind when Brody appeared so suddenly and sent my life into a spiraling mess.

To really think about it, ever since Jack entered that week-long coma and I was on the edge of my seat and my whole focus was on making sure that Jack was safe and that no one I loved was gonna get hurt again.

I didn't want a repeat of my last encounter with Brody and it made me forget about really enjoying my time here, I wasted all my time here just worrying and studying and taking care of Jack that my well-being and how I felt wasn't on my list of necessities, I didn't take care of myself as I promised myself I would.
