It was a new year and school had resumed. I was so glad I was going to have to spend my school life with my friends. While I went for International relations, Olivia went for Political science. Debra went for Bio chemistry and Aisha went for Petroleum engineering.
We four got a room to ourselves. It was a room for five people tho. Later on another girl came to join us Jennifer. Aisha didn't like her at first... Well Aisha particularly never liked anybody.
Tife had cried when he found out he'd be the only one home with no elder brother or sister.
Ben had gone to school - Unilag. Mom at first wanted him to go to the same private university with me as we were twins and shouldn't be separated but Ben strongly objected."look mom I want to live a different life, I need to attend a federal university mom" he had cried
So it was settled, Dotun and Ben were students of Unilag, Dotun in his third year while Ben a fresher.
Williams had gone to Abuja where he worked. Tife was left at home still in Jss3.
He really loved us being together and the last Christmas was like the last gathering we had
Last Christmas was cool. We went to our hometown Oyo to be with family. My dad believed the best Christmas was usually spent with family. The previous one was spent at Texas where mom comes from. I preferred hanging with mom's family.
Hanging with dad's family, it's either grandma disturbs or one of the busy bodied aunties or one annoying cousin would complain about every little thing I do.
"Kehinde, common to cook egusi properly you can't, don't you know you'll get married one day ehhhn" aunty Yemisi complained.
"you're too lazy, you only sit down to use your phone every time " my cousin Bisola spat. I almost fought with her if not for Moyin who had intervened. I had grown closer to Moyin already and when she decided to go with us to see grandma, I was glad... Her dad wasn't really bothered about family Christmas hangout so he didn't come.
Grandma on her part didn't care if I could cook or not, she was only delighted to see her grandchildren especially the ones that had a different accent. We were always at our best behaviour whenever we go to grandma's place.
With my pride and everything I made sure not to hang out with those Ibadan children that were willing to be my followers... Dotun on his part was his usual self, very free with everybody, quick to get guys tagging behind him. Williams was always indoors so was Tife, he kept himself busy with our other cousins and his puzzle.
Grandma's house was the biggest in the area, many people usually came to charge phones and their torch light much to my annoyance.
"Grandma, why don't you want to live with us in Lagos " Tife had innocently asked one night after Ben turned the gen on.
Gran smiled softly and explained how she wouldn't want to leave her husband who lay asleep out there in the compound. While telling us how wonderful her husband was, she cried.
Williams frowned at Tife, he made grandma think of her late husband. When he died and was buried in the village, grandma made up her mind to keep on living there till her own end, so dad took it upon him to build a big modern house and employed a driver, cook and personal help for her, but grandma being the type of social person she was, she brought her distant relatives to come live with her, since her house was big enough...
