Chick Lit sprang up as a genre about two decades ago. Chick Literature is written by women about contemporary women and for women readers. Consumerism and female identity are major issues which get addressed in Chick Lit. The study of Chick Lit as a genre will be rewarding in terms of understanding contemporary women's opportunities, challenges and struggles in the modern era.
In the starting era of Chick Lit, it was embraced enthusiastically by the readers. However, as a literary genre, it remains relatively unexplored by academics. The paper here intends to give a brief introduction to Chick Lit and its development.
