I had just shared the last half of the biscuits with Smile, my new best friend when the sun sent it's first gold rays over the treetops. 'If we want to find Jeff, we need to move now.' I told smile who was lazily resting on my lap. He grunted and got up hesitantly, shaking the last elements of sleep away. We were both incredibly tired but if we had waiting any longer Jeff will have gone, again. 'Well what now?' I asked, my mood was still not very high and with every day that passed I could feel a unidentified emotion brewing inside me. A giggle sent me and Smile in high alert. Rustling coming in our direction caused me and Smile to exchange panicked looks before diving into hiding places. Mine being the tree next to me, it was easy enough to climb and the branches were think so if I laid flat I'd be away from any prying eyes. Smile however, dived into the nearest bush, with happened to be a thorn bush and yelped in pain. The rustling stopped and small whispered were carried up to my hiding spot by the wind. 'Omg, did you hear that?' It was a little girl, maybe ten? I couldn't really tell without seeing her face. 'Shut up then,' there was a boy with her, 'It might be that creepy Jeff guy.' They both fell silent for a while until the little girl said, 'He murdered someone last night, on the street just beyond these trees.' That caught my attention. He must have broke into their house after I saw him. He might still be close by. I didn't care about hiding from the kids I just sliding back down the tree l called out for smile to follow me. He did, facing away from the bewildered kids as we ran towards the street in question. True enough, a house was surrounded by police cars, yellow tape and officers investigating and exploring the house. I could smell the blood. My mouth started to water hungrily, what the hell was wrong with me? I swallowed and mentally scolded myself. There were people crowding round the scene angrily, demanding to know what had happened and police were trying to tell them there was nothing to see. Morons. While they were all distracted we slipped round the back of the house and through a back door. This time the people had evidently fought back, tables were overturned, smashed glass littered the carpet daring you to stand on it. The worst part was the blood. Who'd have known so much blood could come from three humans. Not very human now. What was left of them had been sat neatly on the sofa, their eyelids had been ripped off so you could stare into the vengeance filled undead eyes. They would have almost looked angry, if it weren't for the jagged chelsea smile that had been carved into their faces. A whole family, Mum, Dad and a teenage boy. There was pieces of black hair close to the kitchen next to a bloody counter where I'd presume, from the gaping window in the man's head revealing grey mush in his skull, someone had smashed their head. The hair was Jeff's. I picked it up and hastily shoved it in my pocket. My clothes were getting dirty and torn and I'd probably have to find some more. The police wouldn't be able to track Jeff without his DNA and the only evidence he left, I took so he wouldn't get caught. I still wasn't sure what part of my suicide misson I'd actually be able to turn Jeff back. It was too late for that. With a last minute idea, before leaving I rummaged through the kitchen cupboards and crammed a load of canned pop and biscuits into my backpack. While I was in my bag my I got out the knife and slid it into the waistband of my jeans. I intended on finding him and when I did, I needed protection. 'Come on,' I urged to Smile who was rolling around happily in a pool of blood. I rolled my eyes before fleeing into the sun. That's all we seemed to do these days. Flee. Why should we run? It should be people running from us. No, stop. I couldn't be thinking like that. Back out behind the house I got out the hair, 'Smile, track him with this.' I whispered, not wanting to catch the attention of the police. Smile nodded and sniffed the hair, it didn't take long before her moved his head. motioning me in the direction to go. We were evenly matched now. One freak to find another, seen as though the police were incapable of much. We both ran together, keeping a low profile and Smile led me out of the town. 'God this guy travels,' I complained. You should know, he's your boyfriend. I tripped and fell, giving myself a nasty scrape all up one side of my face. Smile stopped and looked at me with disappointment. 'You, you actually just spoke, in my head.' This time it was Smile who rolled his eyes. 'Wow.' I said. Smile just shook his head and helped me up by rolling me onto my back with his nose. I got up. 'We should probably carry on.' I said. The fall had left a rip down my jeans, making the cool air bite into my leg. Yes, definitely in need of new clothes. Smile finally stopped when we got to another town. It was very busy and everywhere you looked there was pollution. Litter, smoke, even the trees at this side seemed to stand still in protest against the wind. It would have been a beautiful town once, not now though. We passed a few alleys, one with a group of tough looking guys smoking and probably exchanging drugs. As I passed one asked, 'Where do you think you're going miss?' I just glared at him and carried on. That was until I was yanked into the dark alley with them. The guy who had spoke pinned me up against the wall by my arms. Bad move. I didn't even waste time on if he was hot or not, I just waited for the yell. 'Argh!' he yelled, Smile looked like he was enjoying himself swinging happily on the guys leg by his jaws. The other guys ran off in a panic and in an attempt to get Smile off his leg, he let go of my arms. I slammed my elbow down into his head, hard, causing him to fall to the floor. Just I we were admiring out handiwork, a hand covered my mouth and pulled my head back exposing my neck for my captors knife. 'You, are going to come with me, okay?' He started dragging me further back into the dark, it swallowed me up and Smile was still trying to keep the other guy down. This was it. Or so I thought, I heard a malicious whisper, 'Two can play at that game.' I heard a chocking and the guy released me and dropped to the floor. Jeff stood there, knife in hand gleaming with fresh blood. He smiled sadistically watching the guy writhe on the floor and choke to death on his own blood. I'd never admit it but it was a satisfying sight. One final rip and a yelp of terror. It was only Smile, the first guy's throat dripping blood all over his fur. 'Smile, don't get yourself in a mess.' I scolded. Smile simply growled at Jeff. Jeff. We had him cornered. He noticed us watching him and realized we had him. But of course he makes this hard for us, he crouched down and with what seemed like it should have took a lot of training and effort, leapt up with a patherlike grace and caught a window ledge. He jumped over us and ran. We chased after him leaving our artwork behind. The chase was on.
