The guy who pounced on me then licked my face. 'What the hell?' I demanded pushing them off me, as I sat up I found myself staring straight into the eyes of what I thought was a Siberian husky. It would have been cute aside from the abnormal grin on his face. It was very humanlike but very wrong at the same time. It wagged its tail and barked in my face. 'Um, hi?' I said hesitantly, stroking it's head. It just licked my face again. 'What's your name?' I asked, the dog turned its head to one side, revealing a piece of string with a little piece of paper attached to it. "Smiledog" it read. 'Smiledog?' I asked, I could have swore he nodded in reply. 'Okay then, wanna stay with me?' I asked hopefully. The response was what I hoped for, Smile jumped up excitedly and wagged his tail. 'Great.' I said, a ray of hope glimmered inside me. 'Have you heard of Jeff, Jeff the Killer?' I asked. Smile jumped around in a circle and wagged his tale excitedly. I guess that meant yes. 'Do you think you can take me to where you last saw him?' I could feel my excitement building up. Smile nodded and bounded off through the trees. I had to jog to keep up with him. I wondered where he'd come from, maybe he was part of a experiment or just born that way, either way I still wasn't sure on whether the smile was cute or creepy. I kept tripping over trying to keep up, this dog was pretty fast.We passed all sorts of different things until we reached a small town. Smile must have been half human or something because he knew I couldn't risk getting spotted. He crouched in the trees and I followed. He whimpered and I followed his line of sight. He was looking at a house that had been cut off by police tape. 'Oh Jeff...' I gasped. He'd done it again, why was I really surprised? Jeff the Killer, that's what everyone had been calling him. He kills people. 'Can you track him?' Smile led me round the back of the house and actually into the crime scene. I didn't particularly want to go in but I needed to know where Jeff was. The house was trashed. Shards of broken glass littered the floor and there was blood everywhere. Smiley went upstairs, I followed closely after. Upstairs I covered my mouth in shock. Underneath a torn bloody duvet was, presumably, a husband and wife. Each had hair missing where they, or someone else, ripped out their hair leaving bloody tender patches. They had little cuts all up and down their arms and they looked like they were going infected. Their eyeballs had been clawed out of their sockets and on the back wall there were the words, Go To Sleep. Guts were spread along the floor and Smile whimpered. 'Come on let's leave.' We fled the house as quick as we had entered trying not to look at all the blood or breathe in case we could smell the death. Thank god I wasn't bothered by blood but the thought that Jeff had done that... We ran out and back into our hiding place. All of this, it was just driving me crazy but I couldn't give up. I started humming, 'Never Give In,' one of my favourite Black Veil Brides songs and smiledog wagged his tail and barked along. Okay, coolest companion ever, even including Skyrim. 'I'm bored,' I complained, 'We're never going to find him and ever if we do he'll kill me.' Smile just glared at me with his human-like eyes and carried on barking the song. 'Hey, let's go steal something.' I said, reaching the height of boredom. Without hesitation, Smile barked. I was guessing he approved and if not, it was tough. I was hungry and bored. 'Come on.' It took us a while to find a town again and even then we were taking a risk. Police were probably looking for me, unless they were looking for Jeff. They probably assumed I'd been kidnapped and killed. Hopefully. We came out in a back street behind some people's house's, luckily it was turning dark again, a full moon shone in the sky. 'Do you believe in werewolves?' I asked Smile, who, in return, gave me a obvious stare. Yeah, surely if a husky could have human eyes and a deadly grin and a human boy can turn into a insane psychopath then werewolves probably existed. We made our way out onto the street which was lit up by some old streetlights, one was flickering. 'Is this safe?' I asked nervously. Smile was probably used to things like this and he continued to bound onwards. As the light ahead flickered again, a silhouette appeared and disappeared. I stopped. So did smile who started growling quietly. I crouched down, like a hunter, I was no martial artist but I knew how to fight and I could sense one coming. I could hear a thousand weird voices whispering, it was quiet at first but then I could hear it, clear as a bell. Don't Go To Sleep. I shook my head, hoping for the voices to stop, they grated across my brain like sandpaper. Jeff reappeared and started to stride purposefully towards me. My mind screamed at me to run away but I couldn't. I'm not sure if it was because I loved him and I wanted him to come to me or if I was paralyzed with fear. He crouched down so he was eye level with me, I couldn't see any weapons but I knew he was dangerous. The messily carved smile proved it. But I loved him. 'Jeff...' I sobbed. He took my hands and held them tightly in his. 'Your time will come,' he growled darkly, his dark eyes boring into mine. The lights wavered and all of them flickered for a split second, but that was all he needed. He'd gone and Smile, who had been scared to move, quickly came to me and licked my face reassuringly. The smile was gone and his big eyes showed concern. 'Come on,' I said, 'We have to find him.' My stomach however, wanted to find food. I sighed, food then Jeff. Surely he couldn't get that far that fast? After what I had just witnessed, I wasn't sure. Whatever, I needed food. Smile did too. 'We need a plan.'

One suitable corner shop and one plan later we were stood outside the shop in the cold. 'Ready? Go!' Smile trotted in the shop. I counted thirty in my head and listened to the confused babble of a women. Okay. I ran into the shop, 'Cass?' I called, then I turned to the wide eyed shop keeper. 'Excuse me?' I started, calmly and politely, 'Have you seen my dog?' She just pointed at one aisle. I peered round to see 'Cass.' He had knocked a lot of things off the shelves and had some packs of biscuits clutched in his jaws. Good. 'Hey!' I shouted, winking when the shopkeeper couldn't see. Smile barked and charged out with me close behind. Food. We didn't stop running until we got back home. Our woods. I think we pulled that off quite well and she obviously didn't recognize me so we were okay. We disappeared into the darkness, where we belonged.
