"How could you be so stupid!?" He yells as he hovers above me
"I'm sorry I thought I covered them all. I'll go to the store tomorrow and find a better cover up, please I'm sorry." I plead as more tears flow down my cheeks
"You just want to tarnish my reputation don't you?" He growls, his face now right up against mine
"No, of course I don't, it won't happen again Charles I promise." I sob
"You're damn right it won't." I cry out when he pushes me to the ground and then his foot slams into my ribs, he knows better than to mark my face.
"Mommy?" I gasp as I look up and see Tobias in the doorway
"Why are you out of bed?" Charles yells as he steps away from me and towards Tobias
"It's ok, I'll put him back to bed, come on sweetie." I smile as I try to straighten myself up
"This isn't over." He warns quietly and I only nod as Tobias takes my hand and I lead him back to his room.
"Why is daddy angry?" Tobias asks as he climbs back into bed
"You know how busy daddy is, he'll feel better after a good nights sleep. Don't you worry. I love you little one." I smile before kissing his forehead
"I love you too mommy." Tobias smiles. I close his bedroom door and make my way down the hall to my room, thank god Charles and I have separate bedrooms now. I sigh as I slip off my louboutins and make my way to my bathroom. I remove my expensive make up and tie back my perfectly styled hair before walking into my closet. Filled with every designer you could wish for I find a silk nightgown and change out of my fancy dress.
I take the twenty dollars that I hid in my bra and head further into my closet, finding my wedding dress. I feel through the layers of material for the hidden pocket and pull out the wad of cash.
So far I've saved three thousand dollars, which isn't much, but it's hard to get cash with Charles watching my every move. I add the twenty dollars from tonight and hide it back in my wedding dress. I was so happy on my wedding day, Charles was everything I wanted. He was smart and funny, he had a successful, legal, career and he was handsome too. He changed as soon as we got back from our honeymoon, telling me what he expected from a wife and to make sure I didn't tarnish his family name. Then I got pregnant and he was amazing, so loving, came with me to every appointment and he was always stroking my belly talking about how excited he was to have a son.
I thought he had changed but he didn't. Then I thought Tobias deserved a good father. I started saving money the day he hit Tobias, he hasn't done it since, but I'm not fooled he won't do it again. I do everything I can to protect Tobias, Charles regularly punishes me for things Tobias has done, but he's just an innocent little boy. I need to get him out of here, so I'm hiding money and when I think I have enough I'll take Tobias away from him, I know it won't be easy, but I also know it's what's best for my son.
The whole reason I came to Boston was because I didn't want to raise a family living in fear and that's exactly what I've got, I was so stupid.
I'll always regret what I did, to walk away from the man I loved, leaving a whole family behind just because of my stupid fear. Derek would never have hurt me and he would've loved our children more than anything. I miss him and his club everyday but I know they would never take me back, I left without saying goodbye to anyone.
I sigh as I walk out of my closet and back to bed, I grab the painkillers from my nightstand, perks of being married to a world class surgeon, and take a couple to help with my ribs before curling up in bed.
"Come on little one, you know daddy hates it when we're late." I rush as I lift him out of the car and run inside the house. We only went to the park but I lost track of time and I know Charles will be mad we're late.
"Where the hell have you been!?" As soon as I step into the foyer Charles is at the top of the stairs in one of his designer suits
"I'm sorry sir we got stuck in traffic." Ben the driver says from behind me
"Go and prepare the Rolls, we were supposed to leave ten minutes ago." Charles growls, I turn to Ben and smile at him trying to cover for me before he nods and closes the front door behind him
"I'm sorry Charles I'll be ready in just a minute." I say as I run up the stairs with Tobias on my hip
"This is unacceptable Sarah. How do you think it looks if the chief of surgery is late to the fundraiser for my hospital, held by my family." He growls as I get closer
"I'm sorry, I laid out my outfit before we went out, I'll be fast and you can blame me, say I took too long doing my hair." I try to calm him, but I see the fury in his eyes, I need to get Tobias away from him. I try to step around him but he grabs my wrist painfully hard
"You are my wife Sarah, you knew tonight was important and yet you seem determined to make a show of me." He spits against my ear
"You will respect me, not many men would take on some one like you, you should be kissing my feet for all I provide you with." He yells
"Mommy?" Tobias looks terrified
"It's ok little one." I try to soothe him
"It is far from ok you stupid whore, maybe I'm being too soft with you." He grabs me by my blouse and shakes me roughly
"Let go!" I yell
"You never tell me what to do! Do you hear me!?" He's practically screaming as his arm swings back and he slaps me across the face, just missing our son
"You better be ready in five minutes or I will punish you." He growls. I receive another blow to the face and pray my new concealer will cover the mark it'll leave as he pushes me back. Before I can stop myself my heel slips off and I tumble down the marble staircase.
"Tobias!" I gasp as I sit up and check him over
"It hurts!" He cries as he holds his arm
"Look What you've done you stupid bitch! I'm better off going without you, clean up this mess." He says hovering above me, the mess being mine and Tobias' blood. I watch as he walks out of the door leaving me and our son on the floor bleeding and broken
"Mommy!" Tobias sobs
"It's ok little one, come on, let's get cleaned up." I smile as I lift him into my arms, but then I see his arm properly and I know it's broken. I walk through the bathroom and pull the money from my wedding dress, before grabbing a bag and tossing a few things in from Tobias' room.
"We're going to go and get that arm looked at ok little one? I promise you'll be ok." I say before kissing his forehead. That is it, he could've killed our child and instead of caring he's gone to a fundraiser. We are never coming back here after tonight.
